This inventionrelates toa duplicator, more particularly to a fiat duplicator of the type in which a stencil stretching frame is swingably connected at one end to a bed of the duplicator.
One object of the invention is to provide a duplicator of .this type in which the stencil stretching frame can be readily removed from thebed without handling any part for disconnecting the. same.

At each side of the'bed 1, pivoted at '7 to the bracket-2 is a rocking arm 8, of which upper endco-operates with the extension arm 5 of the stencil stretching frame 4. Preferably saidrocking arm 8 carries a roller 9 at its upper end, and is normally pressed against the extension arm 5 by means of a spring 10 which tends to pull the arm 8 forwardly. Means is provided for releasing the tension of the spring 10.. For this purpose, in the bracket 2 is provided a slot 11 having dent portions 12 and 13 at its ends, 7 and therein isinserted apin- 14 to which the for-- ward end of the spring 10 is connected. Preferably a knob 15 is secured to the outer end of the pin 14. When the pin 14 is moved forwardly by means of the knob 15 and is engaged by the forward dent portion 11, the spring 10 is maintained under tension, so that the spring 10 is strong enough to act upon the extension arm 5 through the arm 8 to springly lift the stencil frame 4, as shown in chain linesin Figure 2. 8 Whenthe pin 14 is removed from the dentportion 11, it returns'to the rear dent portion 13, as shown in Figure 4, and. the spring 10 will become practically ineffective, so that the stencil frame 4 is maintained in its lowered position.
For the sake of simplicity the arrangement of the parts has been described with reference to only one side of the duplicator, but it is to be understood that the device on the opposite side .When the stencil stretching frame 4 is swung upwardly the extension arm 5 thereof will become free from the rocking arm 8. Thus, it will be seen, the stencil stretching frame 4 can be readily disconnected by merely lifting it vertically without necessitating handling of any part for disconnection. V I
In-the duplicator described above, as the trun nion 6 of the stencil stretching frame 4 is adapted. to slide along the vertical slot 3 and as the upper end of the arm 8 is adapted to abut against the outer edge of the extension arm 5' at different points according to different positions of the trunnion 6 in the slot 3, it will be seen that when the stencil stretching frame 4 is lowered to a printing position it will always assume aiitomatically adjusted position according to the thickness of the pile of papers placed on the bed 1.
A slightly modified construction is shown in Figures 5 and 6.' In this modification, the open is connected to a bar 14 which is pivoted at its rear end to the inner bracket 2', and having at its forward end a key 15'. To the outer bracket 22 is secured a spring bar 23 on which are formed detent teeth 12 and.13, and the lower freeend thereof is provided with an extension 24 lead out of the bracket through a holeJ- The bar 14 g is normally held engaged by the lower detent tooth 11' so .that the spring 10 is maintained under tension. For releasing the tension of said spring 10 the extension 24 of the spring bar 23 is pushed inwardly, whereby the bar 14' is released from the lower detent tooth 12 and returns to the uppermost position. When the spring bar 23 is engaged by the upper detent tooth 13', the tension of the springlO is partly released so that a slower swing-motion of the stencil stretching frame 4' can be attained. When it is desired to secure full tension.of the spring 10, the key 15' is merely pressed down to be engaged by the lower detent tooth 12. The function of the parts shown in Figures 5 and 6 in substantially similar to that of the. construction shown inFigures 1 to 4, and it will be obvious without describing any further.
What I claim is:.
1. A fiat duplicator comprising a bed, a stencil the stencil stretching frame, and spring biased rocking arms abutting against said extension arms on the stencil stretching frame so as to normally maintain said trunnions pressed downwardly in said bearing slot and yet to tend to turn said stencil stretching frame upwardly about said trunnions.
,2. A fiat duplicator comprising a bed, a stencil stretching frame having trunnions and extension arms extending rearwardly, bracketssecured to said bed and each having a bearing slot open at the upper end being adapted to receive said trunnions on the'sten'cil stretching frame, rocking arms abutting against said extension arms on the stencil stretching frame, springs tending to turn said rocking arms forwardly, and means for holding said springs in ineffective position.
3. A flat duplicator as set forth in claim 1. wherein each of the rocking arms is provided with a roller which cooperates with the extension arm on the stencil stretching frame.
4. A fiat duplicator as set forth in claim 2, wherein each spring is connected at its one end to the rocking arm and is connected at the other end to a pin, which pin being inserted into a slot foi'med in the bracket and having a dent portion at its forward end, the arrangement being such that by the engagement of said pin with the forward dent portion of the slot the spring is maintained under tensiorr.
