UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ISAAO H. RANDALL, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT -lN STREET-C AR WINDOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 194,930, dated September 4, 1877; application filed February 21, 1877.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, IsAAc H. RANDALL, of Boston, in the county of Sufl'olk and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improved \Nindow Attachment for Horse-Oars, of which 4 the following is a specification This invention relates to a simple device or attachment for fastening a board over the apertures in the car-body that are left at each window, to permit of the opening of the windows and blinds, &c., the said boards being used to close such apertures and the windows to the entrance of air thereat during the winter or cold months.
This improved attachment is plainly shown in the accompanying plate of drawings, Figure 1 being a cross vertical section of a horsecar window with it applied in position; Fig. 2, a side View; Fig.3, a plan view; and Fig. 5, a cross-section on line 31y, Fig. 3, all of the attachment itself; Fig. 4, a horizontal section on line or as, Fig. 1.
In the drawings, A represents a horse-car window-frame, and B the side body of the car, having an aperture, O, for dropping the Window-frame when the window is to be opened, all as ordinarily, and therefore needing no more particular description herein.
a, a board for closing the apertures 0, through which the Window and blind frames play when opened and shut. This board ais made to fit between the uprights D, making the guide for the window and blind frames, and to cover over the said apertures, and in this position it is secured by my attachments b b, one at each end.
Each attachment b is made of metal or other suitable material, and it consists of a plate, 0, which is notched at d to fit around the bead f of the window-frame, and has two screw-holes, gg, one each side of said bead f, by which with screws to fasten it to the said 'board a, and also has an upright lip, h, with ascrew-hole, l, by which to fasten it with a screw to the inner face of the window-frame to the farther side of said beadf.
The attachment b is simple, cheap, and efficient, and enables the boards a to be put in position without injury or defacement of the car-body to any material or practical extent, all as is obvious without further explanation.
In using the closing-boards a the blindframes are removed from the car-body.
Having now described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The car-window attachment b, consisting of a plate, 0, having screw-holes g, and a lip, h, having a screw-hole, l, all substantially as described, for the purpose specified.
