7 IMPROVEMENT IN HEATING ATTACHMENTS FOR LAMPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 194,840, dated September 4, 1877 application filed July 30, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GHARLEs I. PAYNE, of Binghamton, in the county of Broome and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Heating Attachmentfor Lamps, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a central vertical section. Fig. 2 is a transverse section on line .90 w in Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Myinvention consists of asheet-metal chimney having a east-iron base and top piece, and provided with a mica window and a slide for covering the same. 1
In the drawings, A is a cast-iron base-piece, which is provided with an upwardly-projecting flange, a, for receiving the sheet-metal portion B, and is apertured centrally to receive the lamp-burner, and is also provided with apertures 11 for receiving the springs b of the burner, that are usually employed for holding the glass chimney. In addition to these apertures draft-holesc are made for admitting air to the flame.
The sheet-metal portion B is headed externally at dd and d, and between the beads an opening, 0, is made. A piece ofmica, f, is placed on the inner surface of the part B, over the opening, and is held in place by wire rings g that are sprung into the beads d.
On the outer surface of the part B, between the heads (1, a sheet-metal cover, h, for the opening 0 is placed. This cover is capable of sliding around upon the part B, so as to cover or uncover the said opening.
0 is a cast-iron top, fitted to the part B, and bavingtheinternal flange 'i and flaring notched rim k. The vessel to be heated is set upon the notched rim k, and the smoke escapesthrough its notches.
- By removing the base-piece A the part B I may be placed on alarger burner, the springs of which slip over the bead d and hold the CHARLES I. PAYNE.
