Claims.
The present invention relates to an attachment for magazine looms and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device embodying a novel construction,
5 combination and arrangement of parts through the medium of which the ends from the bobbins in the magazine will be kept taut at all times so that when the full bobbin is transferred to the shuttle, the ends will be taut and the shuttle will thread properly without breaking the thread.
Other objects of the invention are to provide an attachment of the aforementioned character which will be simple in construction, strong, durable, highly efficient and reliable in operation, compact and which may be manufactured and installed at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of an attachment in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is an end elevational view with the roll assembly support omitted.
Figure i is a detail view in perspective of the oscillating shaft.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises an angular supporting bar 1 which is mounted on the mega- Zine (not shown) of the loom, as at 2. The bar 1 has mounted on one end a roll assembly which is designated generally by the reference numeral 3. The roll assembly 3 includes a pair of opposed plates 4 which are secured together in spaced relation to each other in any suitable mannor, as at Journaled in the plates i and projecting beyond the outermost of said plates is a pair of parallel shafts 6 having felt covered friction rolls '7 fixed on their outwardly projecting portions. Slots 8 are provided for one of the shafts 6 for iloatingly mounting one of the rolls '7, the floating roll being yieldingly engaged with the other roll 7 by a spring 9 mounted between the plates 4. Fixed on the shafts 6 between the plates i are ratchet Wheels 10. The spring 9 rides on the hub portion or" one of the ratchet Wheels 10.
5-5 The reference numeral 11 designates a tubular housin which is secured on the bar 1 through the medium of suitable brackets 12. Mounted for oscillation in the tubular housing 11 is a shaft 13, said shaft projecting beyond the ends of the housing and terminating, at one end, in a crank arm 14 which is yieldingly maintained in engagement with the usual hammer 15 of the loom by a spring 16.
Fixed on the other end portion of the shaft 13 is an arm 17 having mounted on its free end pawls 18 which are operatively engaged with the relatively reversed ratchet Wheels 10 for driving the rolls '7 in opposite directions. If desirable, or necessary, suitable dogs may be provided for preventing retrograde rotation of the ratchet wheels 1c. The reference numeral 19 designates an angular stop for the arm 17 which is adjustably mounted on the adjacent end portion of the tubular housing 11.
Briefly, the operation of the device is as follows: When the hammer 15 of the loom goes down to force a bobbin into the shuttle, the spring 16 is permitted to actuate the shaft 13 for retracting the pawls 18. It may be well to here mention that the ends from the bobbins in the magazine pass between the rolls '7. When the hammer 15 returns to its inoperative position, the shaft 13 is actuated thereby in the opposite direction against the tension of the spring 16 and the rolls '7 are actuated by the pawls 18 for eliminat- 5 ing the slack from the threads extending from the remainder of the bobbins in the magazine.
It believed that the many advantages of a loom attachment constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood, and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
