Description

Jan. 30, 1934. A. ABRAHAM ET AL BATHING TENT AND THE LIKE Filed May 11, 1953 Ath s.
i \nrlllllwwmw 9@ INVENTORS Alfred Abraham and Raymond Alfred Manning Cheek. y,
Patented Jan. 30, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE BATHING TENT AND THE LIKE Alfred Abraham and Raymond Alfred Manning Cheek, County of Kent, England 2 Claims.
This invention relates to folding portable tents which are more particularly intended for use in sun-bathing, its object being to provide a simple form of tent which can be turned to catch the sun in any position while yet allowing of the necessary privacy for the sun-bather. At the same time it is not possible with this arrange ment for anyone in a building which overlooks the tent to see into the tent, if the latter is disposed at a distance from such building approximately equivalent to the height of such building.
According to the present invention we provide a tent comprising four corner posts held in position by stay-cords passing through guides, eyes or the like provided at the upper parts thereof, said uprights or corner posts being connected together by transverse rods pivoted thereto, at top and bottom there being a further or auxiliary transverse member, or there may be more than one such member with which engages a lever pivoted about the centre of one of the bottom rails or cross members.
The various cross members or transverse rod are connected to the corner posts by bolts and thumb nuts where necessary so that by releasing such nuts and pushing or pulling on the lever, the corner posts can be brought to an angle so tilting the tent in such a way that the user can receive the full benefit of the sun in its difierent positions.
Naturally the stay-cords must be loosened prior to the tilting of the tent and tightened up when the latter has been set in the desired position. By using the lever arrangement on two adjoining sides it will be clear that the tent can "be tilted in four directions.
A wire curtain rail or similar means may be provided for closing the entrance, the sun-bather receiving the sun's rays through the open top of the tent, the sides of said tent being covered by any suitable tent material, or the entrance may be closed in the usual way and the curtain carried by the wire rail may serve to close the top of the tent, serving as a sliding met, so providing a sleeping tent for example.
The invention is shown in the accompanying drawing:
Fig. l is a perspective view of the tent.
Figs. 2 and 3 show details.
The tent has four corner posts 1 held by stay rods 2 passed through eyes or the like 3. The posts 1 are interconnected at top and bottom by transverse rods 4 pivoted at 5 thereto while an- @5- other transverse member 6 pivoted at '7 is moved by a lever 8 pivoted at 9 to one of the bottom rails 4. Bolts 10 may be used for connecting the posts and cross members where necessary for easy movement and tightening.
The stay cords are held taut in a clip member such as 11.
A wire curtain rail or the like 12 carries a curtain 14.
We claimz- 1. Sun bathing tent comprising a frame consisting of four corner posts carrying stay guides adjacent the top thereof, top and bottom transverse members between said posts, clips mounted on said frame, stay cords passing through said guides on the tops of the several posts and held in said clip members, pivotal connections between the transverse members and said posts, auxiliary transverse members at two adjoining sides pivoted to the corner posts, a lever pivoted on each of said auxiliary members and the adjacent bottom transverse member for tilting the tent to any angle after the release of the stay cords.
2. Sun bathing tent as claimed in claim -1, having runners mounted at the upper part of two opposite sides of the tent adapted to support a blind carried on said runners adapted to close the top of the tent, and said frame adapted to support side coverings.
