efficient in use and economical in manufacture.
Among the several objects of this invention is the provision of an improved water tight bag particularly intended for the use of persons swimming and bathing.
Another object of the invention, ancillary to the foregoing object is the provision of an improved device for carrying valuables, toilet articles, etc., on the person of the user while swimming or bathing.
A further object of the invention, ancillary to the foregoing objects, is the provision of an improved water tight bag embodying an improved and novel closure device which is simple in operation and highly eihcient in use.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to theaccoinpanying drawing, showing the preferred form of construction and in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view depicting a preferred form of construction of the invention as seen from the front side;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the invention as depicted in Fig. 1 as seen from the rear side;
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken substantially onthe line 33 in Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a sectional view similar to Fig. 3 but showing. my improved bag in opened position;
and
Fig. 5 is a plan View of one unit of the improved closure device embodied in my invention.
Referring to the drawing wherein a preferred .form of construction of my invention is illustrated, l0 generically indicates the body portion of my improved container which is made of any suitable elastic material such as rubberor the like. The body portion 10 includes the front side portion 11 and the rear side portion 12 formed integrally therewith so as to eliminate seam lines. Provided on the rear side portion 12 many approved manner known in the art is a flap 13 in which are provided similar eyelets 14, 15 and 16. A flap 17 is provided on the rear side portion 12 and formed in this flap is an eyelet 18 and it may be seen by referring to Figs. 3 and 4 that any one of the eyelets 14, 15 and 16 may be aligned with the eyelet 13 and the flaps l3 and 17 detachably secured together by means of a suitable connecting element 19. My improved device is particularly intended to be carried on the body of the bather or swimmer and it is manifest that .the flaps l3 and 17 may be extended around the bathers belt to secure the the user. A
As best shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the rear side bag on the person of portion 12 of my improved bag includesaportion 20 which in the opened position of the bag extends substantially parallel to the rear side 12. Preferably formed integrally with this portion20,
though obviously capable of being vulcanized or.
otherwise joined thereto are similar portions 21 and 22 in which are provided abutments or shoulders 23 and 24. The portions 21 and 22 are joined, as best shown in Fig.4, to provide a tongue portion 25 interiorly of which is provideda retaining roll 26, preferably of elastic material. for a purpose to be made apparent presently.
Slidably mounted on the tongue portion 25 and retained thereon by means of the roll 26 is my improved closure or clamping device which is ilustrated in Fig. 5 and generically indicated at 27. The device 27 includes a supporting bracket 28 which is substantially U-shaped and provides oppositely disposed bight portions 29 and 30 and spaced apart arms 31 and 32. Rotatably mounted and floating on the arms 31 and 32 of thebracket 28 are similar cylindrical tubes 33 and 34 which may be made of any suitable and preferably non-rusting material.
A flap t0ngue35 is provided on the upper end of the front side portion 11. proved device is in open position, as illustrated in angularly from the rear side portion. 12 of the When my im-- bag and the closure device 27 rides freely thereon with the arm 32 and the roller 34 disposed upwardly. When it is desired to close the device the portion 21 is bent back upon the upper end portion 36 of thefront wall portion 11 so that the shoulder 23 is disposed opposite theshoulder 24 as best shown in Fig. 3 and in this position it is manifest that the tongue 35 extends down,-
wardly. The closure device 28 is then rolled over the portions 21 and 22 so that the roller. 34 abuts the shoulder 23 while the roller 33 abuts the shoulder 24 and, as shown in Fig. 3, the front wall portion 11 and the rear wall portion 12 of the bag are thus wedged between the rollers 33- and 34 effecting a water tight closure.
In opening the bag it is merely necessary t grasp the lower end portion of the bag between the thumb and fingers of the left hand while the tongue 35 is grasped between the thumb and index fingers of the righthand. A pulling action is then exerted on the tongue 35 which moves the.
therein may be-withdrawn through the upper and open end 37. I
From the foregoing description of my invention it is manifest that I have provided an improved Water tight bag which will be particular- 1y attractive and useful to persons swimming and bathing while being serviceable in many other ways. It is likewise apparent from the foregoing description that my improved device .is. simple and economical in construction while being simple in operation and highly efficient in use.
While I'have illustrated and described the pureferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capableof variation tions mounted on the front wall of said bag, said last-named portion including foot portions integral" with saidfront wall and including enlarged portions providing shoulders extending laterally across said front wall at spaced apart intervals adjacent the upper end of said bag, said last-named portions including co-operating stem portions providing a tongue adapted" in open position of said bag to extend rightangular- 1y from said front wall, and means providing a closure device on said tongue including rotatable means adapted in-closedposition of said bag to abut said shoulders whereby the upper end portions of said front andrear walls may be folded back upon said rear wall with said end portions disposed between said rotatable means.
