The present invention relates to bobbin changing looms and has more particular reference to the bobbin guide for the bobbin carrier or hopper of such looms.
The principal object of my invention is to provide a bobbin guide which has a novel and improved means for engaging the bobbin next to be transferred and holding the same from turning on its own axis.

The loom to which my invention has been applied includes a lay 1 which reciprocates forwardly and rearwardly (the front of the loom is at the left of Fig. 1) and which carries a shuttle box 2 for receiving a shuttle 3. The shuttle box 2 is so positioned that when the lay is at front center the shuttle will be directly beneath the transferring mechanism of the hopper.
The hopper shown consists of a hopper stand 4 carrying discs, such as 5, which are rotated step by step by means of a feed pawl 6 and ratchet '7. Rotation of the discs serves to successively present bobbins 8 in position to be transferred to the shuttle, the actual transfer being accomplished by means of a transfer hammer 9 actuated when dog 10 is positioned to be engaged by lay bunter 11. As the bobbins approach transfer position they are held in the hopper by a bobbin support 12.
The parts as thus far described are old and well known in the art and form no part of the present invention except as they are necessary elements of a complete combination.
The bobbin guide, which is of my invention, includes a substantially horizontal portion 13 and an approximately vertical portion 14. The guide is secured to the hopper stand by screws (not shown) which pass through holes 15 in the attaching portion 13. The rear face of the portion 14 is arcuate, and serves to position and guide the butt of the bobbin during transfer. This face may be grooved, as at 16, to accommodate the rings 1'7 usually provided on the bobbin butts.
A plunger 18 passes rearwardly through the vertical portion of the bobbin guide, and engages the 55 butt of the bobbin to hold the latter against turning, as by engaging in the space between the ends of the ring 17 as shown in Fig. 2. A housing 19 is positioned on the front face of the vertical portion 14, being threaded into a boss 20 thereon. 50 A spring 21 is positioned within the housing and bears against the head of the plunger 18 to force the latter rearwardly against the bobbin butt.
The housing 19 is adjustable forwardly or rearwardly by merely turning it farther into or out of the boss 20, a screw driver slot 22 being provided to make this operation more convenient. Adjustment of the housing serves to vary the tension of the spring 21. A lock nut 23 may be provided to lock the housing in adjusted position.
It is noted that when the bobbin is transferred the plunger will be cammed forwardly against the action of the spring if the latter is not so strong as to cause the bobbin to roll downwardly instead of moving bodily.
Having fully disclosed the preferred embodiment of my invention, I claim:
1. In combination with the hopper stand and rotary hopper of a bobbin changing loom, a bobbin guide secured to the hopper stand and having an approximately vertical face for positioning and guiding the butt of a bobbin during transfer, a plunger extending rearwardly through said bobbin guide for engaging the bobbin and holding the latter from turning, a housing secured to the front side of said bobbin guide, and a spring positioned within said housing and engaging said plunger for yieldingly urging the latter rearwardly.
2. In combination with the hopper stand and rotary hopper of a bobbin changing loom, a bobbin guide secured to the hopper stand and having an approximately vertical face for positioning and guiding the butt of a bobbin during transfer, a plunger extending rearwardly through said bobbin guide for engaging the bobbin and holding the latter from turning, a housing threaded into a boss on said bobbin guide and adjustable forwardly and rearwardly therein, and a spring positioned within said housing and engaging said plunger for yieldingly urging the latter rearwardly, adjustment of said housing serving to adjust the tension of said spring.
3. A bobbin guide for the hopper of a bobbin changing loom, said bobbin guide being comprised of an attaching portion, an approximately vertical portion the rear face of which constitutes the bobbin guiding surface, a bobbin holding plunger passing rearwardly through said vertical portion, a housing positioned on the front face of said vertical portion, a spring positioned within said housing and engaging said plunger for yieldingly urging the latter rearwardly, and means for adjusting the tension of said spring.
