BROUWER, OF WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOB T CROMPTON & KNOWLES LOOM WORKS, OF WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS, A CORPORATION OF MASSACHUSETTS WEFT REPLENISHING MECHANISM FOR LOOMS Application filed December 19, 1930. Serial No. 503,510.
This invention relates to improvements in weft replenishing looms and it is the general object of the invention to simplify mechanisms of this type particularly usable on u multicolor looms to the end that several of by the weft detector through a controller, an
actuating lever which is mounted on a reciprocating rod head, and a connector from the lever to the color slide. As heretofore constructed the guide for the rod head has been I fixed to the loom frame so as to be immovable under ordinary conditions and not capable of adjustments with the feeler. Due to one reason or another it is occasionally desirable to adjust the location of the feeler relatively to the length of the shuttle and in the past this has necessitated further adjustments to render effective the controller for the actuator lever. This is particularly truewhen a side slip feeler is employed. It is an important object of my present invention to provide'a single mounting forthe actuating lever, the controller therefor, and the weft detector, to the end that these parts when once adjusted in proper relation can always be so maintained even though the detector be moved to different positions along the length of the lay.
It is desirable that as much of the automatic weft replenishing features as possible be assembled as'a unit at one place before application to the loom and it is a further object of my invention to provide the magazine with a holder for the previously mentioned common support so that the magazine and the detector together with its controller and lever may be assembled as a unit. This.
a plane parallel to the direction of adjustment of thedetector along the lay. I V
A still further object is to provide means to move the guide for the actuator lever mounting in a direction toward and from the lay for the purpose of aligning the guide with the mounting and'thus prevent wear.
With these and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, my invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and set forth in the claims. i
In the accompanying drawings, wherein a convenient embodiment of my inventionis set forth, i
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a weft re- 7 plenishing magazine of the multicolor type I of a replenishing mechanism designated generally at M. The latter has mounted therein for longitudinal movement in a direction transverse of the lay a rod or shaft 13 carrying lingers 14 one of which is shown in Fig. 1 and having also a rod 15 supported rigidly with respect thereto. The sliding'shaft 13 together with the fingers and rod 15 constitute the previously referred to color slide and is under control of a pattern mechanism as regards its longitudinal position transversely of the lay. Angular movement of the color slide is accomplished through a link 16 to the upper end of which is adjustably threaded a head 17 having sliding engagement with the rod 15.
The lower end of the link 16 is pivotally connected as at 18 to a floating actuator lever 19 pivotally connected as at 20 to the upper end of a vertically reciprocating block or mounting 21 carried on a rod 22. The latter may be controlled by means of a suitable cam and is actuated to have a downward movement when the lay is in its foremost position on detecting beats of the loom, and to have an upward movement when the shuttle is on the opposite side of the loom coincident with or subsequent to the movement of the pattern mechanism not shown. A stop pin 23 engages the right hand upper end of the .floating lever as viewed in Fig. 1 to cause the link 16 to rise when the rod 22 is elevated.
' A pivoted controller 24 is counter-weighted as at 25 so as normally to occupy the position shown in Fig. 1 out of the path of the right hand end of the lever 19. The latter is guided in a slotted upstanding finger 26 which may be the means for supporting the stop pin 23.
The magazine frame is provided with a hub 30 having a relatively large stud 31 held therein against angular and longitudinal movements by a set screw 32. The transferrer mechanism designated generally at T has a hub 33 which pivot-s about the stud 31 but is normally held in raised position by means of a large coil spring 84;. An adjusting nut 35' varies the torsional strain of spring 34:.
A weft detector mechanism designated gener'ally at D comprises a small stand 40 on which is mounted a feeler bed 41 and cap 42, these parts being held in position by a bolt 43 extending into the stand 40. A detector'arm 44 extends rearwardly and has a roughened "surface 45 to engage the yarn. A. forwardly shown in United States'patent to Payne No. 1,738,198.
As previously stated, it is an important object of my present invention to mount the previously described lmlr, floating lever, controller and detector mechanism so that they can move as a unit, and in carrying my invention into effect I provide a holding extension on the stud 81 and mount thereon the support 51 having the hub 52 through which the extension passes. A pair of set screws53 determine the angular and longi tudinal position of the support relatively to the extension 50. The lower part of the support is provided with a slot 5 through which extends a bolt 55 the rear end of which passes through a vertical slot 56 formed in the stand 40. By means of the slots it is possible to position the detector mechanism correctly with respect to the controller and'the floating lever, v
The left hand end of the frame has an upstanding horn 57 in which is slidably mounted the previously described block or mounting 21. The part 26 which is slotted to receive horn 5 4.
It will be seen that the horizontal position of the pivot 20 and lever 19 in a direction,
parallel to the lay and also of the pivotal support for the controller 24 can be changed by Vila ying thelocation of the-hub 52 along the cxtension 50. The link 16 is mounted so that it can swing in a vertical plane parallel to the axis of stud 31 and it is for this reason that the parts mounted on the support 51 can be moved as described without objectionably disturbing the relation of the color slide with respect to the parts of the magazine with which it cooperates. During the assembling the detector will be in its correct position with re ct to the controller and lever 19 and this relation can be maintained whenever it is necessary to move the detector in a direction parallel to the stud 31 to accommodate differing conditions in the shuttle.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a simple support for the weft detector, controller, and actuator lever 19 requiring all these parts to move as a unit in a direction iarallel to the lay. It will also i be seen that the relation which these parts rain with respect to the magazine can be preserved by reason of the fact that the suppert 51 is mounted directly on an integral part of the magazine, that is, the stud 81. Furthermore, the support is movable about stud 31 in a Way to permit adjustment of the guide relatively to the mounting forthe actuator lever.-
Having thus described my invention it will be seen that changes and modifications may he made therein by those skilled in the art vithout departing from the spirit and scope of the invention and I do not wish to be limited to the details herein disclosed, but what I claim is: H
