IMPROVEMENT IN VINE CLAMPS OR FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N o. 194. 102, dated August 14, 1877 application filed July 18, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE F. MI'J'LLER, of Pittsburg, Allegheny county, Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vine-Clamp or Fastener, of which the following is a clear, full, and exact description, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a vine secured in place by my improved clamp or fastener. Fig.2 is a side view of my improved clamp or fastener.
This invention relates to improvements in devicesl'or fastening orclamping vines to walls, trellises, 860., whereby the delay and annoyance incident to fastening to walls or trellises all Vining plants with tacks, tape, cord, or bands of straw is avoided; and the invention consists of a spring-wire clamp provided with a cork sheath or other suitable material, for preventing the chafing of the wood, bark, or skin of the vine, all as hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawings, Arepresents myimproved wire clamp or fastener, bent and pointed, as shown, to form the coil-spring B and point 0. The wire is first passed longitudinally through the cork sheath D, then bent to form the coil B, and shaped or pointed, as at C, so as to be readily driven into wood or between crevices in brick and stone walls, as clearly shown in Fig. 1, the vine being held between the clamp and the wall. Instead of a point, C, for securing the wire clamp in position, said wire might be bent so as to form an eye, through which a nail or other suitable device could pass, and be driven into the wood, to hold the clamp in position.
I do not desire to limit myself to a cork sheath, as any other suitable or equivalent material can be used. 1 do not, also, desire to limit myself to the present construction of wire clamp, as herein shown, as it may be varied to some extent without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The Wire-spring clamp or fastener A, provided with a sheath, D, of cork or other suitable material, and adapted to be secured in position, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
Pittsburg, July 14, 1877.
