This invention relates to improvements in furniture especially adapted for use in prison cells and the like, and has particular reference to a combined table and seat.

g An object of the invention is to provide a table and seat of simple and practical construction which may be readily installed as a permanent part of the equipment of a prison celi and quickly collapsed when not in use, and the elements of 0 iwhich are so assembled as to permit of the easy inspection thereof, to thereby minimize the possibility of an inmate of a cell concealing a weapon within the coniines of the table and seat.

The above and other objects will appear more J clearly from the following detailed description When taken in connection with the accompanying drawings which illustrate the preferred embodiment of the inventive idea.

The combined table and seat of the present ing()l vention is especially adapted for installation in penal institutions and the elements thereof, all preferably made of metal, are so assembled that the entire apparatus may be readily attached to the wall of a cell or other room and collapsed against said wall when not in use so as to occupy a minimum of space.

In carrying out the invention, there is preferably provided a supporting frame of at metal adapted for attachment to a wall and comprising j a horizontal portion 5, upwardly extending vertical end extensions 6 and a depending intermediate extension '7. Lugs 8 are provided at the free upper ends of the end section V6 and have pivoted therebetween the rear portion of the anged table 9. Diagonal braces 10 are utilized to connect the table 9 with the portion 5 of the supporting frame and to support said table in horizontal or operative position. Said braces are pivotally connected at l1 to said portion 5 and each have at their other ends a sliding connection with a slotted plate 12 secured to the under side of the table 9 adjacent one end thereof, this connection permitting of the table being swung from operative to inoperative positions, in the latter of which the iianged front end of the table is engaged by pivoted latch 13 secured to the wall above said table. Each of the diagonal braces 10 is provided ajacent its free end with a lateral notch 14 which is adapted to receive the anged rear edge of the table 9 when the latter is swung 60 to its inoperative position thus permitting the table to 'ce engaged against the wall in practically flush contact therewith.

On opposite sides of the depending intermediate extension 7 of the supporting frame, the 65 portion 5 of the latter is provided with ears 15 to which are pivoted the spaced inner ends of the seat supporting arms 16. These arms converge forwardly or upwardly and have secured between their adjacent ends the extension 17 of the 70 rectangular metallic seat frame 18. The entire seat including the frame 18 may be made of metal or a Wooden center 19 may be secured within said frame. I n order that the table and seat may be moved to operative or inoperative positions in unison when either of said elements is lifted or pulled downwardly, a connection is established between the' seat supporting arm and one of the diagonal braces 10. As shown in Figure 2, this connection is made to the right hand brace 10 and includes a rod 20 projecting from one of thearms 16 adjacent its pivot l5 and to the other end of said rod there is joined a link 21 which is pivoted to the adjacent brace. To support the arms 16 and the seat in a horizontal operative 85 position, a leg 22 is pivoted at 23 between the converging ends of the arms 16 and this leg, when in its operative position, is adapted to rest upon the floor. In order that the leg may be swung to its inoperative position adjacent the Wall when the table and seat are adjusted to the position shown in Figure 4, the leg has pivoted thereto adjacent its lower end, one end of a link 24 the other end of which is pivotally connected at 25 to the depending extension 7 of the supporting frame.

What is claimed is:

1. In a collapsible table and seat structure, a supporting frame adapted to be attached to a wall, a table pivoted to said frame, braces pivoted to said frame and table and each having sliding connection with one of said elements, a seat carried on an arm pivoted to said frame in proximity to one of said braces, a link connection between said arm and the latter brace, and a supporting 10 5 leg for said arm having its upper end pivoted thereto.

2. In a collapsible table and seat structure a table pivoted to a supporting frame, a seat, braces pivoted to said frame and table and having slid- 11o ing connection with one of said elements, a seatcarrying arm also pivoted to said frame in proximity to one .of said braces and extending from one of the side edges of said seat so as to be in offset relation thereto, a link connection between said arm and the latter brace, a leg having its upper end pivoted to said arm, and a second link connection between said leg and supporting frame.

3. In a. collapsible table and seat structure, a supporting frame adapted for attachment to a wall and including a horizontal portion, upwardly extending end portions and a downwardly extending intermediate portion, a table pivoted between said end portions, a seat associated with said table, braces extending between the hori- Zontal portion of said frame and said table and having sliding connection with one of them, a seat-carrying arm projecting from one of the side edges of said seat so as to be in offset relation thereto, said arm being pivotally connected to said horizontal portion in proximity to the point of connection of one of said braces therewith, a link connection between said arm and the last-named brace, a supporting leg for said arm having its upper end pivoted thereto, and a second link connection between said leg and the intermediate portion of said supporting frame.
