I. I I
If desired, I may interpose in the. pipe line 13' leading from the smokestack an auxiliary suction-pressure unit 1a which is practically iden-' tical in structure with the suction-pressure unit heretofore described, with the exception that instead of the flaring mouth 4, the corresponding end of the conduit 2a is threaded as at' 22 to enable the unit to be connected into the pipe line. The pressure chamber 611 of the auxiliary unit la is placed in communication with the pressure line 21 through the medium of a valved tube Set as clearly shown in Fig. 1.
Having thus described the construction and assembly of my improved suction-pressure unit and one form of installation, its operation is as follows: a
Assuming for example that the device is in stalled in a conventional steam boiler furnace, the pressure line 21 is connected into the steam boiler, the pipe line 13 leading from the smokestack as hereinbefore stated.
In a furnace employing soft coal as a fuel, this device is preferably set into operation only during coaling which may last for'varying periods according to the size and type of furnace,
and quality of coal, while in oil burners, the apparatus would preferably be in continuous operation due to the continuous feed of oil fuel.
' The injection of steam from pipe line 21 through pipes 8 and 8a into the annular chambers 6 and 6a causes a pressure adjacent the restricted annular opening X and with it a suction through the sleeve 10. The latter being in communication with the smokestack through pipes l3, l5 and 16, causes a suction in the smokestack which, during the period of operation draws the smoke and with it the combustible products into the sleeve 10. These products are mixed with the steam or other pressure fluid adjacent the annular opening X and the mixture is discharged forcefully into the fire-box of the furnace where it is again subjected to combustion.
It will benoted that by manipulating the valve 19, the admission of air through the aperture 18 is controlled, thus enabling the operator to regulate the oxygen content of the mixture discharged throughthe mouth 4. It will also be noted that the suction-pressure units may be individually controlled and may be used either singly or in varying groups. For example, by shutting off the valve 829 the unit 1a will be rendered inoperative, yet still functioning as a conduit for the passage of smoke into the units 1. If desired, suitable valves may be installed in the tubes 8 to control the respective units.
By regulating the valve 23 the passage of steam or other pressure fluid may be controlled as to the amount'of pressure required and when it is desired to discontinue the use of the suctionpressure units in their entirety, this valve 23 is closed.
Obviously with a device of this character such elements as smoke, gases, soot and the like are consumed in the fire-box and are thus prevented from being discharged through the Smokestack to cloud the atmosphere, deface surrounding property and effect the health of those in the near vicinity.
From the foregoing it is believed that the objects and advantages of my invention may be readily understood by those skilled in the art without further description, it being borne in mind that numerous changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit of the invention as set out in the following claims.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:-

2. A jet pump comprising an elongated body portion having relatively thick longitudinal walls,
a cylindrical conduit extending through said body portion, an annular recess in the inner wall of said conduit intermediate the longitudinal extremities thereof forming a pressure chamber, said inner wall being'thickened adjacent one end of said chamber, a substantially elongated cylindrical sleeve of uniform diameter adapted to slidably engage said thickened portion at one end, its other end terminating within said conduct a short distance beyond said chamber in spaced relation to the wall of said co'nduit, to form'a short restricted annular passageway extending parallel to the axis of said conduit, an annular shoulder on said sleeve adjacent said thickened portion, adapted to lie within a complementary inset in the end of said body portion, means for removably securing said'sleeve in place, and means for introducing a pressure fluid into said chamber whereby a suction is created through said sleeve.
3. A jet pump as claimed in claim 2 wherein said sleeve is removably secured in place by means of an externally threaded collar adapted to engage complementary threads in said inset.
4. A jet pump comprising an elongated cylindrical body portion having relatively thick'longi tudinal walls, a cylindrical conduit extending through said body portion and terminating in a flaring mouth at its discharge end, a portion of said conduit being enlarged to form a substantially annular pressure chamber lying entirely within the radial confines of said body portion, an elongated cylindrical sleeve of uniform chamber, whereby a pressure is created-in the conduit which causes a suction through said sleeve.
