Description
Patented Nov. 21, 1933 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Foo'ra'rn Application October 19, 1932. Serial No. 638,470
1 Claim,
My invention relates to an improved one-piece rubber footbath adapted for convenient application of antiseptic and germicidal solutions in dressing rooms, locker rooms, shower rooms and the like. The improved footbath of my invention comprises a iiat bottom member and a surrounding wall member, the wall member curving upwardly and inwardly from the point of junction with the bottom member to minimize loss of solution by splashing and including a reinforcing rim on its upper edge to minimize loss of solution by extreme deformation of the wall member, the bottom member including an anti-slip tread on its upper surface and a groove on its lower surface beneath said wall member to minimize slipping of tbe iootbath on the surface on which it is placed. By providing a sharp upper and inner edge on the reinforcing rim on the wall member, the losses of solution carried out of the bath on the feet of those using it is minimized.
A footbath embodying my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Fig. l is a plan and Fig. 2 is a section of this embodiment.
The footbath illustrated in the drawing comprises a bottom member l and a Wall member 2. The wall member curves upwardly and inwardly from the point of junction with the bottom member. A reinforcing rim 3 is provided on the upper edge of the wall member 2. This reinforcing rim has a sharp upper and inner edge 4. The bottom member 1 has an anti-slip tread on its upper surface. On its lower surface, and beneath the Wall member 2, the bottom member 1 has a groove 5 extending around the. bottom member to secure the foot bath at the desired place. 'Ihe groove acts as a suction cup to retain the toot bath in place, and as it is located beneath the wall member, and as the bottom member is fiat, there is no tendency for the edge of the groove to be lifted from the oor to break the vacuum in the groove.
While the footbath illustrated is square, it will be apparent that my invention can be embodied in footbaths of other shapes, rectangular, polygonal or circular for example.
The footbath of my invention is fabricated oi soft vulcanized rubber. Conventional methods and conventional rubber compounds are used in its fabrication. The use of soft vulcanized rubber is advantageous in two respects. 1t minimizes the danger of injury to those using the bath. Soit vulcanized rubber also is resistant to the attack of the usual antiseptic and germicide solutions, particularly those containing hypochlorites and similar chlorine compounds.
In addition to the advantages previously noted, my invention provides a footbath meeting the requirements of its intended purpose enjoying marked economy with respect to the amount of material required for its fabrication.
I claim:
A one-piece foot-bath of soft vulcanized rubber comprising a flat bottom member and a surrounding wall member, said wall member curving upwardly and inwardly from the point of junction With said bottom member and including a reinforcing rim on its upper edge, said bottom member including an anti-slip tread on its upper surface and a groove on its lower surface beneath said wall member, said groove acting as a suction cup to retain the footbath in the desired place.
JOHN A. KIENLE.
