This invention relates to bust bodices or brassires for womens wear of the kind having breast supports of substantially triangular form overlapping or intersecting in front and wherein a tension is produced along the inner edge oi each support by the combined action of shoulder straps and lateral straps or bands passing from the outer corner of each support round the wearers body to the inner corner of the saine 10 support, or an equivalent point on the base of the other support.
A bust bodice of this kind is described in my United States patent speciiication No. 1,681,119 dated 14th August 1928.
An object of the present invention is to adapt a bust bodice of the type described for wear more especially with womens evening gowns or other garments cut low in the back sothat the crossing straps or bands shall not be visible.
According to the present invention the straps or bands which cross the back oi the wearer are drawn down and connected to some other garment such for example as a belt or corset at a point or points lower than that at which the straps or bands would normally pass, connections from said point or points to the fronts ofV the actual supports being made either by continuing the same straps or bands, or providing separate ones, or by means of the upper edge oi the garment, such as the belt or corset, to which the bands are attached, the said garment in such case having means for attachment to the lower edges of the breast supports at or near their inner corners. Y
The belt, corset or other like garment may be made higher in front than behind in which case the lower edges of the breast supports may be directly attached thereto either detachably as by buttons or the like fastening or with a permanent attachment as by sewing in which case the bust bodice may be sewn or otherwise permanently attached to or made integral with the corset, belt or other garment along the lower edge of the overlapping portions of the supports.
If the upper edge of the elt or corset is substantially at the same height both in iront and behind there will be a gap all the way round between belt or corset and bust bodice and the attachment between t -e two garments in front may conveniently be by short straps substantially prolonging the lines oi the inner edges oi the overlapping breast supports.
The straps crossing the back oi the wearer from the outer corners of the breast supports may conveniently be continuous from the outer drawing of which:-
corner o one support to the outer corner of the other support, connection with the upper edge of the belt or corset being effected byv passthe single connecting strap thus formed through a loop or loops attached to said upper odge near the midpoint oi the back.
- in order that the nature of and manner of carrying out the present invention may be more fully understood one iorrn of construction is described with reierenoev to the accompanying Figs. 1 and 2 are front and backviews of one forrn of construction.
Fig. 3 is another front view showing an alternative front attachment.
Referring to the drawing:-
- A, A1 are substantially triangular breast supports" overlapping in front and having a common base line D, D1.
A shoulder strapv E or El is attached at the apex oi each of the supports and' passes over the adjacent shouldervoi the wearer to the outer extremity F or -Fl oi 'the breast support, (see Fig. 2).
Connecting the points F, F1 is a strap E2 which maybe continuous with the shoulder straps E, El and which is passed through. a loop G attached in the middle of the back oi the wearer to the upper edge'i-lX of a corset or belt H.
The inner extremities D, l)1 ofv each support, A, A1 are attached to the upper edge ri-1X of the belt or corset E, either directly, as in Fig. 1 by means, for instance, oi a tab having a buttonhole, or, asin Fig. 3 by means of short extensions or straps, K, K1 substantially prolonging the line of the inner edges of the breast supports A, A1, buttons being conveniently provided on the upper edge HX of the belt or corset H., Aas at D, D1 in Fig. 1 or as at. L in Fig. 3, the corresponding attachmentv on the left side of the wearer being (in Fig. 3) hidden by the curve of the wearers body. 95
Thus the pull of the shoulder strap E is taken along the inner edge oi the support A to the inner extremity D and thence either directly (Fig. 1) or by means of anr extension K (Fig. 3) to the upper edge HX of the belt or corset H and along such upper edge HX round the wearers back to the loop G and thence by rneans of the strap E2 to the outer extremity F of the support A, and so to the other end oi the shoulder strap E.
Sin'iilarly for the other support A1 the pull 105 of the shoulder strap El is taken through the point 131, the upper HX or" the belt H and the strap E2 to the point F1 at the outer extremity of the support A1. Y'
