HIS RIGHT TO DAVID vLO WMILLER,
OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN DUMPlNG-CARS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 193,281, dated July 17, 1877; application filed March 15, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, THOMAS PURvmNoE, of Steubenville, in the county of J eft'erson and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Imprm'ements in Dumping Cars, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved invention in a closed position. Fig. 2 is a similar view in an open position.
Similar letters of reference occurring on the several figures indicate like parts.
My invention relates to that class of dumping-cars in which the car is formed of two sections which discharge their contents at the center; and it consists in pivoting the two sections together at the inner top edges of the same, and providing a sliding catch or belt at the bottom thereof, all as will be hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the drawings, A A represent the twosections forming the body of the car, and which are connected together at the top by the hinge K, upon which the two sections turn to discharge their contents when the catch or bolt B at the bottom is drawn back.
The catch or bolt B is adjusted to the bottom of the section A in suitable guides, and is adapted to engage with the pin 0 on the opposite section A their respective axles, and their contents may be easily and readily discharged by drawing back the catch B, which causes the sections to turn on the hinge K and discharge their contents. It will also be observed that the two sections are readily closed by bearing down upon the end of either section, and secured in place by pushing in the bolt B.
The advantages of my invention will be readily apparent, inasmuch as a complete and efficient operation is secured without the aid of pulleys and chains or other intricate mechanism.
lam aware of the patent granted to Merrington and Kirkwood under date of November 1, 1870, and numbered 108,810, and I hereby disclaim the construction therein shown; but
What I claim as new and useful is A dumping-car consisting of the sections A A, pivoted together at the upper central part, and provided with a catch or bolt, B, and pin 0 at the bottom thereof, the several parts being arranged and combined to operate substantially as and for the purpose specified.
THOMAS PURVIANOE.
Witnesses JAMES DUFFY, DAVID LOWMILLER.
It will be observed that v the two sections A A are nearly balanced on
