This invention relates in general to a display rack or holder for counter, Window or other advertising purposes and has more particular reference to a folding display of this kind which is made of a single sheet of material.
One of the principal objects of the invention is in the provision of a display of this kind in which a portion of the base i5 folded upon the other portion with parts inserted through the upper portion for holding the remainder of the display in upright and extended position.
A further object of the invention is in the provision ci a new and improved display holder of this kind which is made oi one piece of material, folds compactly and is easily folded and unfolded without danger of breaking the parts or folding them incorrectly.
A further object of the invention is in the provision or a one piece folding display which utilizes a portion or" the base tc extend through another portion thereof for holding the parts in extended position and for providing a stepped support or an open container for articles to be displayed,
Other and further objects will he pointed out hereafter, the accompanying drawings illustrat ing preferred forms or" the invention.
1n the drawings, l'ig. l is a perspective of one form of the invention in which a portion of the base is extended through the bottom of the other portion ior supporting stepdike display shelves.
Fig. 2 is a sectional View of the construction shown in Fig. l;
Fig. 3 is a sectional View of a portion of the display in folded position;
Fig. l is a modified forni showing a display container;
Fig. 5 is a modified form showing an open shelf supporting structure; and Figs. 6, 'l and it show the blanks oi' which the structures oi Figs. l to 3, d and 5, respectively, are made.
In display holders of this kind it is common practice to provide a separate back or easel which is attached in one or more pieces to the display itself, which may also be made of several sheets oi material. The present invention simpliles constructions oi this kind by providing a display of a single sheet oi material which is folded upon itself in a way to make an easel unnecessary and to support the display portion and a hacking therefork upon a substantial base which may be used as a holder as well as a supior articles displayed thereby.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, a single sheet cardboard or the like is scored and cut so that it will iold compactly together and may be extended without breaking the foldlng lines to form the different displays. In the form shown by Fig. 1 a blank as shown by Fig. 6 is cut from a sheet ot material which is scored Chicago, Ill., assignor to Chicago, Ill., a
1930. Serial No. 477,541
transversely to form a back section 7, an upper base section 8 and a lower base section 9. The intermediate portion of the portions '7 and 8 may be provided with cuts parallel to' the side edges and with opposite score lines 10 to form steps ll.
In order to support the steps 1l in the display position, the lower base portion 9 is provided with wings 12 which fold parallel with the cuts which form the steps and which extend into the space formed below the steps when they are raised. These wings may be attached to the upright portion 7 in any suitable manner as for example by cutting a notch 13 in the edges of one of the steps which will form a corresponding projection l; in the edge of the cut-on portion so that a notch 15 properly placed in each of the wings l2 will engage over the projection and not only hold the wing in position as a supporter of the steps l1 but also will engage the upright portion 7 and hold it securely in its upright position.
In collapsing this display the projections le are disengaged from the notches l5, the wings l2 are turned downwardly and the base and upright portions are pressed over together whereupon the step portions will iold together in zig-Zag fashion as shown in Fig. 3.
in the structure shown by Fig. i made from the blank ci Fig. 7, there are connected upright 16, hase i7 and supporting portions i8 with slots 19 and 20 in the upright and base portions through which lateral wings 2i are turned upwardly from the supporting section 1S and these wings are each provided with a notch 22 at the rear end for engaging and sup-1 porting the upright portion 1S in its raised position. 1n addition a wing 23 is cut from the base portion 17 having overhanging notched projections 2d which are adapted to engage the notches 25 ln the upper edges or the supporting wings 2l when the wing 23 is turned upwardly. This construction forms an open container with bottom, sides, front and back into which any articles for display may be placed.
Another form oi the invention as illustrated in Fig. 5 is made from a blank shown by Fig. 8, in which there. is a connected back 26, base 27 and supporting portion 28, the back and base having corresponding slots 29 and 30 through which lateral wings 31 bent upwardly from the supporting portion 28 are inserted, the upper ends of these wings being provided with notches 32 adapted to engage and hold the upright display portion 26 in proper position. The upper edges of these wings 3l may be shaped to iorm corresponding steps, and the wings being rigidly supported at the bottom and at the back will provide a substantial support for any articles placed thereon.
Thusvit will be seen that a number of different los n displays may be made embodying the idea of folding the base upon itself and forming wings in the under portion which are inserted through the other portions not only to bind them together in an upright display form but also by inserting them through the other portions, to provide a display support or container in which articles may be held and shown.
All of these forms are easily collapsible by simply disengaging the wings from the upright portions which is easily done by raising the dis play, disengaging the wings and folding them downwardly and the parts of the display together.
