This invention relates to a container for brushes.
An object of the invention is to provide a container to protect the bristles of a brush and to keep the bristles straight and away from dust.
Another object of the invention is to provide a brush container in which the brush may be shipped and kept well protected from injury or soiling of its bristles, the said container being adapted to allow the ready removal of the brush therefrom for use, and to permit the return of the brush into the container after the use thereof.
Other objects and advantages are to provide a container for brushes that will be superior in point of simplicity, inexpensiveness of construction, positiveness of operation, and facility and convenience in use and general efiiciency.
In this specification and the annexed drawings, the invention is illustrated in the form considered to be the best, but it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to such form,
because it may be embodied in other forms'; and
it is also to be understood that in and by the claims following the description, it is desired to cover the invention in whatsoever form it may be embodied.
This invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Fig. 1 is a perspective'view of the container.
Fig. 2 is a, development view of the blank from which the container is formed, the top of the container being shown in folded position.
Fig. 3, is a vertical sectional view of the container, the section being taken on the line 3-.-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a cross sectional view of the container, the section being taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of another form of the container, constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 6 is a perspectiveview of another form of the container.
Fig. '7 is a fully unfolded development view of the blank from which the container is formed.
In carrying out my invention, I make use of a container 6, preferably shaped as a hollow,
truncated, substantially quadrangular pyramid,
to enclose the bristles '7 of a brush. The base block 8 of the brush is disposed inside of the wider end 9 of the container. In the top 11 at the wider and 9 of the container, is provided an opening or slot 12, to permit the insertion of a brush handle 13 therethrough. Thus the bristlesand the base block 8 of the brush are within the container, and the brush handle 13 is extended outside of the container, through said opening 12. A front side 14 of the container is adapted blank is creased and scored as at 17. The central surface 18 is arranged to lie adjacent one side of the bristle base or bristle block 8, and of the bristles '7 after the block is folded. The surface 18 forms the rear side of the container. A flap on one end of the surface 18 forms the top 11. The top 11 has a surface area substantially the same as the surface area of the bristle block 8. The brush handle 13 projects through the opening 12 in this flap or top 11. The top 11 is adapted to be folded at a right angle relatively to the central surface 18. The flap forming the top 11 has foldable tabs 19 on the two ends and on the remaining side thereof to be folded-over corresponding parts of the bristle block 8 and bristles '7. A flap 21 of trapezoidal shape, is formed by the respective creases 1'7, on each side edge of the central surface 18, to be folded over the opposed narrower sides of the bristle block 8 and bristles '7. The flaps 21 overlie the tabs 19 on the sides of the block 8. 0n the convergent outer crease of each flap 21'is a flap 22. The flaps 22 are foldable over the remaining wide side of the block 8 and bristles '7 opposite and convergent to the central surface 18. On the-other end of the central surface 18 is the front side 14 separated from the surface 18 by two parallel creases 23, which form the narrow bottom 24 of the container when folded.
On the front tab 19 is a flexible metal clasp 26, and on the flaps 22 and front side 14 are aper- 1 tures 2'7 so disposed as to be in alignment with clasp 26 is adapted to be spread over the outer face of the front side 14 thereby to hold the entire container in folded position.
The brush handle 13 is inserted into the opening 11 from the inside. Then the tabs 19 are folded over the respective sides ofthe block 8. The tabs 21 are next folded over the side tabs 19 and over the narrow sides of the bristles '7. Lastly the flaps 22 are folded over the remaining, or front side of the brush, and the front side 14 is folded upwardly towardthe top 11. When the clasp 26 is compressed, the apertures 2'7 can be inserted thereover, and then by spreading the clasp 26 over the outer face of the front side 14, adjacent theaperture 27, the box is securely held together to effectively protect the brush confined therein.
To remove the brush from the container, it is sufficient to compress the clasp 26 and swing the front side 14 outwardly around its bottom edgecrease 23, then the brush can be grasped and pulled out of the container.
In the modified embodiment shown in Fig. 5, a box 28 is formed in the shape of a truncated pyramid and has its sides permanently secured to each other. The top 29 of the box 28 is free to be.swung out of the box 28 around the rear top edge 31 thereof. This top 29 is cut in U-shape, on the legs of which are formed tabs 32. The brush is placed into this box 28 from the open top. Then the top 29 is bent over the top of the bristle block 8 so as to straddle the brush handle 13. The tabs 32 are inserted between the front side of the bristle block 8 and the adjacent side of the box 28 so as to hold the top 29 against accidental removal.
In the modified form shown in Fig. 6, a box 34 is formed with fixed sides 36 and top 37. The top 37 has an elongated slot 38 therethrough, into which the brush handle 13 is inserted. The front side 39 of the box 34 is swingable around its top edge 40 outwardly to allow "the insertion and removal of the brush through the front of the box 34. On the free edge of the front side 39 is formed a tab 41 to fit over the bottom 42 of the box 34.
Suitable clasp of the type described can be pro- 4 claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A brush container consisting of a cut out sheet of creased and scored pliant material having a central surface arranged to lie adjacent one side of the bristle block and bristles of a brush; a flap on one end of the central surface having a surface area substantially the same ,as the surface area of the bristle block and having an opening thru which the brush handle can project and which is adapted to be folded at a right angle relative to the central surface, said flap having foldable tabs on the remaining two ends and side thereof to be folded over corresponding parts of the bristle block and bristles; flaps on opposite sides of the central surface foldable over the remaining sides of the bristle block and bristles; a flap on the other end of the central surface foldable over the end of the bristles and side of the brush opposite the central surface; and means to hold together all of the folded over end and side flaps, on one side of the brush.
2. A brush container consisting of a cut out sheet of creased and scored pliant material having a central surface arranged to lie adjacent one side of the bristle block and bristles of a brush; a flap on one end of the central surface having a surface area substantially the same as the surface area of the bristle block and having an opening thru which the brush handle can project and which is adapted to be folded at a right angle relative to the central surface, said flap having foldable tabs on the remaining two ends and side thereof to be folded over corresponding parts of the bristle block and bristles; flaps on opposite sides of the central surface foldable on a taper on opposite sides of the brush, extending from the bristle block to the end of the bristles and also foldable over the remaining side of the brush; a flap on the other end of the central surface foldable over the end of the bristles and side of the brush opposite the central surface; and means to hold together all of the folded over end and side flaps, on one side of the brush.
