This-invention relates to new'and useful improvements in brushes, and'constitutes a further improvement of the inventions, for which applications for patents have been filed by me ,5 under the datesi'of "April-9," and July 30, 1932,
stance by sand or die casting. I
With'the above and other objects in view, this invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of'parts, hereinafter fully described, claimed and illustrated, in the accompanying drawings forming. part of this specification, and in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all views, and in-whichz Figure 1 is .atransverse vertical's'ectional view of mydevi'cei 'Figure'Z is a similar view of the latter somewhat modified. Figure 3 is a transverse vertical sectional view of my device showing bristles attached to the latter, while Figure 4 is a slight modification of Figure 3, and Figure 5 is a detail view pertaining especially to Figure 4. Figure 6 is another detail view showing one form of the top of the'device as thus illustrated in Figure 1; while Figure 7 shows in part a bottom' view of the device. V
, Referring more particularly to the drawings, Figure 1 illustrates my device, which comprises a ringformed frame-member 10, openat the top 'and bottom, and having a chamber 11 formed therein; the said chamber may, if the'said ring- 1 formed member is made through a sand-casting process, be closed at the bottom, except for the small water-outlets 12, the form of which is also shown in Figure 6; or, if made through a die- .casting process, the bottom of the said chamber may be entirely open, in which case a bottomring plate 13 screwed onto the said ringformed member lO, will close the bottom of the said chamber; the said bottom-ring plate having tapered openings le therein for outlet of the water. In the first embodiment described, the openings 14 of the said bottom-ring plate will naturally correspond to the openings 12 in the water chamber, as to position. In. the outer latter, and shown especially in the detailvieWQ I e olai s. (oli s izei I side-wall of the device'is an openingxlb forthe insertion of a spout 16, whereby to cOnvey'wate'r tothe said-chamber. The said spout maybe attached to'thesaid member. 10 in any suitable manner, such as .by-screws :or .aiscrew-threadeli '50 arrangement.) q v Into the-saidring-formed frame-member 10 is inserted'a sponge 1'7, fwhich; protrudes a-little H above the top of the latter andis heldin place by means of a" handle-18, which is-inserted '35. through the top portion ofg'the-sai'dsponge; 17,- U
and: is otherwise engaged to; the frame- -member 10 by, being slid into a .top recess, formed in the Figure 6. u 1 In Figure 2 my deviceisshow n witha-lid or l top cover 20, formed integralwiththe said ringformed frame-memben; whereby. the 1 latter, as-
sumes the. character of an. inverted vessel orv container. In said Figure 2 the'watercham-ds her is; however/open below, and a 'ringmember" 21,, formed with perforations/V22 therein, is arranged tocover the -latter,,the saidrringmember' being secured in place. by set-offs 23;:formed upon the walls .of-the said'wat'er chamber; a rubber 80,
gasket .24. having tapered vopeningsf25 therein, is securely mounted by, any 'suitable'me'ans on-itop Y ,of the ringmember 21, in position to register with the perforations 22, while a ring-formed" cover:
26 is fastened onto the bottom. of the device I in any convenient manner; Lug members 27 are formed upon the inner walls of the water chamber'to retain in position the sponge 17, when the latter is pressed into 1 the said container.
The usual arrangements for insertion of the handle- 18 at the topjmay be retained herein, and the water inlet is provided for as formerly described. r a,
,In Figure'3 is shown a further modification to the effect that the bottom'cover 28 of the device illustrated herein closes the openlbottom of the container and is of a somewhat corrugated con struction with the'bristles 29 of the brush arranged and fastened in the depressions or deeper" 1 parts of the said corrugated surface; the said bristles are then in turn secured by pressing two opposite walls, forming such depressions, together, as shown at 30; A, Y 5 In Figure 3 has however, also been shown a slight modification in the said arrangement of,
the bristles to the effect that the latter may penetrate the said depressed parts by means of small 1 openings formed in the latter, whereupon the l'lfi edges of the said openings are squeezed. tightly onto the said bristles, as shown at '31.
The said bottom cover 28 may be screwed onto the container or secured to the latter by means of screws 32.
In Figure 4 is shown a modification to the former arrangement; as the empty central space of the container here'is adapted to hold some fluid remedy, or fluid .soap,'which may be discharged by manipulating a screw-va1ve'33', preferably operated from abovejthe' top cover, and
, penetrating as well the said top as bottom cover,
as shown; suitable washers may, of course, be employed to assure a tight fitting-of the said screw-valve 33 to the'top and bottom cover.
The said Valve may, however, also, ififdesired, be operably connected with and close a s'e'parate container 34 as shown in Figure 5,'fi;om which container discharging tubes 35 for said fluid extend over and through the bottom co'ver.
In the construction shown in Figure 4 a washer 36, made of any suitable material and having lperfora'tions in the center to register with the water-outlets, is arranged betweenthe bottom wall ofthe said water chamber and the'bottom cover 'to'prevent-water fromthe said chamber to enterand'mix with the said fluid soap composition. A vent 37 'isshown at the top of the 'container, towhich a strap 38 also lmay be'attached to facilitate operating'thedevice'. I
It isobvious that changes may be made in the form, construction and-arrangement of the several parts, as shown, withinthe scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of my invention, and I 'do *not therefore wish 'to limit myself to "thefconstruction and arrangement shown and described herein.
