14 Claims.
Heretofore wringers have been provided with troughs at their bases adapted to receive a part of the water expelled by the rolls and to discharge this water back into the receptacle from which the clothes are taken. The present invention is designed to improve this type of wringer, simplifying the construction thereof. The invention is further directed to an improvement of .the wringer structure with relation to guiding, or guarding the clothes at the ends of the rolls and also to structures taking care of the water other than that received by the trough. Features and details of the invention will appear from the specification and claims.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings as follows:

1 marks a base, 2 sidestiles, 3 a top bar, 4 a lower roll, 5 an upper roll, 6 lower roll bearings,
and 7 upper roll bearings, the upper roll bearings being slidingly mounted in the side stiles 2, 8 and 9 lower and upper roll shafts respectively which operate in the bearing blocks and 10 a tension spring operating on the upper bearing blocks. the spring being tensioned by a screw 10a. operating in a release device 10b. The base 1 is formed of a stamping and is of trough shape. It preferably is provided not only with side walls but also with end walls. The side stiles are pref= erably arranged within the base, the walls of the side stiles conforming to the ends and sides of the base, the side stiles being secured in place by spot welding, or other convenient means.
The base gradually slopes both endwise and crosswise to a discharge opening 11. The discharge opening has a surrounding flange 1111 which is provided with a surrounding lip 11b.
A spout 12 is formed of a stamping. It has a bottom 13, which is gradually depressed toward 5 the center so as to centralize the-stream, side walls 14, and end wall 14a. The side and end wall have an inturned flange 15 with an inwardprojection 15a at the end and projection s 15b at the sides. The flange 15, and projections 15a and 15b with relation to the flange 11a and lip vented from getting around the end of the roll.
11b are such that the spout can be snapped into position by merely crowding the projections 151) against the walls of the flange 11a, the side walls of the spout springing sufficiently to permit the projections 15b to pass by the flange and the contraction of the side walls completes the assembly of the spout on the discharge neck of the trough. The trough is thus swiveled on the neck and may be swung to either side of the wringer.
The side stiles are preferably formed of a single plate of sheet metal, each stile having an outer wall 16; front and rear walls 17, return bend 18 with a return wall 19 and an inner wall 20 and guide flange 21. The return bend 18 and wall 19 with the inner wall 20 form in effect a housing, or guard cavity 22 into which the ends of the rolls extend so that the clothes are pre- In the wringing operation, some of the water expelled from the clothes follows down along the top of the clothes themselves and to provide a water board by means of which the clothes may be readily fed into the bite of the rolls and also to return the water which flows down the clothes, the water boards 23 are provided. These water boards are provided with trunnions 24 which extend into slots 25 in the return bends 18. The water board is provided with a shoulder 23a which engages the edge of the trough, or base, and thus, in conjunction with the trunnion 24, supports the board. The assembly of the board can be readily accomplished by the tilting of the board and the spring of the metal permits the trunnions to be put in place. Thus boards of different widths may be, readilysupplied for difierent wringers after the wringer as a whole has been assembled. The apparatus may be swung up, as indicated in dash lines, to a position between the opposing return bends 18 so that the boards are practically within the face of the wringer frame. This is important withrelation to packing and shipping wringers of this type.
What I claim as new is:
1. In a wringer, a frame comprising a trough-v shaped sheet metal base having side walls, said base receiving water expelled by the wringer and having a discharge opening; and sheet metal stiles having side Walls telescoping and secured to the side walls of the base.
2. In a wringer, a frame comprising a troughshaped sheet metal base having'side and end walls, said base receiving water expelled by the wringer and having a discharge opening; and
sheet metal stiles having side and end walls telescoping and secured to the side walls of the base.
3. In a wringer, the combination of wringer rolls; a trough below the rolls adapted to receive water dischargedby the rolls, said trough having a discharge opening; and a spout detachably secured to the trough at the opening, said trough and spout having interlocking parts engageable through a manipulation of the spout itself.
4. In a wringer, the combination of wringer rolls; a trough below the rolls adapted to receive water discharged by the rolls, said trough having a discharge opening;. and a spout detachably and pivotally secured to the trough at the opening, said trough and spout having in terlocking parts engageable through a manipulation of the spout itself.
5. In a wringer, the combination of wringer rolls; a trough below the rolls adapted to receive water discharged by the rolls, said trough having a discharge opening; and a spout detachably secured to the trough, said spout having spring-actuatedinter locking parts engageable through the manipulation of the spout and the yielding of the parts.
6. In a wringer, the combination of wringer rolls; a trough below the rolls adapted to receive water discharged from said rolls, said trough having a discharge opening with a projecting flange and lip; and a spout having side walls with inturned edges adapted to yield to permit the assembly of the trough on the lip flange of the opening and securing the trough on said lip flange.
'7. In a wringer, the combination of a base; sheet metal side stiles having front and rear, and inner walls, the front and rear walls having return bends on their inner edgesdeading toward the inner wall; and wringer rolls extending into the space between the return bends, the bends forming guide housings for the rolls.
8. In a wringer, the combination of a base; sheet metal side stiles having front and rear, and inner walls, the front and rear walls having return bends on their inner edges leading toward the inner wall, the base and stile being of approximately the same width; and wringer rolls extending into the space between the return bends, the bends forming guide housings for the rolls.
9. In a wringer, the combination of a troughshaped sheet metal base having side walls; side stiles having front, rear and inner walls, the front and rear walls having return bends at their inner edges leading toward the inner wall, the rear and front faces of the side stiles overlapping the side walls of the base and secured thereto; and wringer rolls extending into the space between the return bends, the bends forming guide housings for the rolls and the trough receiving water expelled from the rolls.
10. In a wringer, the combination of a frame comprising a trough-shaped sheet metal base having side walls, said base receiving water expelled by the wringer and having a discharge opening, and sheet metal stiles having 'side walls telescoping and secured to the side walls of the base; and a detachable water board secured to the frame and side stiles at a point in front of the lower roll, said board extending forwardly from the rolls.
11. In a wringer, the combination of a frame comprising a trough-shaped sheet metal base having side Walls, said base receiving water expelled by the wringer and having a discharge opening, and sheet metal stiles having side walls telescoping and secured to the side walls of the base; and a water board pivotally mounted on the frame and adapted to be swung up into a position between the stiles.
12. In a wringer, the combination of a troughshaped sheet metal base having side walls; sheet metal stiles having front and rear walls and an inner wall, the front and rear-walls having return bends on their inner edges; wringer rolls extending into the space between the return bends, the bends forining guide housings for the ends of the rolls; and a water board pivotally mounted between opposing return bends and adapted to be swung up against the face of the wringer.
13. In a wringer, the combination of a troughshaped sheet metal base having side walls; sheet metal stiles having front and rear walls and an inner wall, the front and rear Walls having return bends on their inner edges; wringer rolls extending into the space between the return bends, the bends forming guide housings for the ends of the rolls; and a water board detachably and pivotally mounted between opposing return bends and adapted to be swung up against the face of the wringer.
1a. In a wringer, the combination of a frame comprising a trough-shaped sheet metal base and sheet metal side stiles secured to the base; and a water board pivotally mounted between the stiles and adapted to be swung up into a position between the stiles.
