Description

J. MARTIN.
COOK-STOVE 3005s.
Patented June 26,1877.
ATTORNEYS WITNESSES 071M; M064 JACOB MARTIN, OF TIFFIN, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN COOK-STOVE DOORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 192,521, dated J one 26, 1877; application filed April 28, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB MARTIN, of Tifiin, in the county of Seneca, and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cook-Stove Doors; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, ref-. erence being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
My invention relates to oven -doors for cooking stoves, ranges, and other cooking apparatus; and it consists in providing such door with a glass or mica covered opening, concealed from the outside of the oven-door by an auxiliary door hinged to the main door, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will ,now proceed to (lescribe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in Which- Figure l is a front view of an oven door embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section thereof.
A represents an oven-door, of any form and size, for a cooking stove, range, or other cooking or baking apparatus. In this door .A is formed an opening, B, of any suitable form and size, and around said opening, on the inner side of the door, are formed two offsets, a and b, as shown in Fig. 3.
The opening B is covered by a plate, 0, of glass, mica, or other transparent material, placed against the shoulder a, and held in place by means of a metal frame, D, which is placed against the shoulder b, and of such width that its inner edges overlap the edges of the transparent plate 0.
The metal frame D is fastened to the inner side of the door A by two, three, or more screws or bolts, (1, projecting inward from the door, and passing through holes in the frame, and nuts c, screwed upon the ends of said screws or bolts.
The transparent plate 0 in the doorA is protected from all injury from the outside by means of an auxiliary door, Gr, hinged to the outside of the main door, and fastened by any ordinary latch, so that when closed it entirely conceals the transparent plate. By means of this auxiliary door the transparent plate is protected from being broken or otherwise injured, and it is easily opened to see the state of the articles in the oven Without admitting cold air into the oven.
I do not broadly claim securing a mica plate to a swinging door by an independent guard-plate, as I am aware that such is not new.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with a stove-door, A, having opening and shoulders a b, the transparent plate 0, held thereto by the frame D, and the exterior hinged and detachable door G, all constructed substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 17th day of April, 1877.
JACOB MARTIN.
