Patented Aug 29, 1933 ,DISPLAYRACK AND-REEL L l Louis .A. Macklanburg; Oklahoma" City, Okla;
I Application'April 16,1931. Serial No. 530,66 3 Claims (olgziz -sisgyk This" invention relates to apparatus for displaying and dispensing elongated material .such as weather stripping, metal or felt, which is ordinarily shipped and dispensed in coils.-
555 The retailing of such material from coils and particularly of the strip metal weather stripping, is frequently quite inconvenient, as the material when it is uncoiled is'diflicult to control and there is always a liability of the coil itself spring- ";{Qg ing or disintegrating. v
The object of the present invention is to provide improved apparatus of a simplified structure which can be shipped with a coil of the materialito be dispensed therefrom, if desired,
:1 in a very convenient and compact form, and
which permits the convenient display of the material and easy removal of small parts for sale purposes.
A further object A further object of the invention is'to provide means for ready measuring the coiled main connection with scription.
claimed. r Two sheets of drawings accompany this specifiwith the coil of material in'place.
. the reel support, showing the reel'in side elevation.
Figure 3 is a transverse vertical cross section through the coil rack with a coil in place.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary longitudinal vertical cross section through-the reel rack showing a coil in position.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of a modified form of the apparatus. a
Figure 6 is a plan view of the form illustrated Figure '7 shows the apparatus illustrated in Figure 5 assembled with a coil of material for transporting purposes.
Figure '8'is a fragmentary side view of Fig- ure 7. t I a is to provide apparatus of 5,29 the character indicated which will permit the holding the end 50f the Weatherstrip.
The invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combinations of parts hereinafter more particularly described and- ,bolt or screw 19'. T 1, v e
For conveniently dispensing weather strip with Figure 2 is a vertical cross section. through Referring to the drawings, of metal weather stripping; 2 indicates. a coil rack which' as illustrated is in the form of an open top box of a-height substantially half the diameter of the coil which is to be dispensed therefrom. The coil rack 2- is provided with a slot 4 near the bottom of oneend through which the free end of the weather strip is threaded.
' A winding reel 6 is provided, having spokes 7 and'a spindle 8. The periphery of reel 6 is provided with transverse peripheral grooves, notches or inturned loops 9 intermediate the spokes7, and the spindle 8 is-preferably provided with a squared end adapted to receive a handle 16. Thel'oops or notches 9 providemeans for passing cords around the coil formed on the reel for tying the same and also facilitates removal of the coil 7 from the reel. A transverse notch 10 is also provided in the periphery of reelf6 for receiving and I A reel support of U-shape is provided, having notches 11in the ends of its legs 12, in which notches spindle 8c of the reel "is adapted to seat. The reel'support can be secured to a counter 'by its intermeditepart'13 and a screw 14, or it may" slot4. 7
In'the modified form illustrated in Figures 5 to 8, the. reel rack consists of a loop 18 adapted to embrace the coil 1 diametrically, this loop 18 being supportedby verticalstandards :17, one on. each side; which standards are in turn associated with a basef20. In this form, the U support 12' for the reel can be secured to the coil loop as by the apparatus thus described, it is desirable that the weather strip be provided with indicia 20 spaced apart unit distances, by preference one foot. 8 r v In operation the coil rack and reel support will be assembled as illustrated in Figure 1 or Figure 7 i 5 and. the coil of material to be dispensed will be placed in the coil rack. As small quantities are called for, the end 5 of the strip will be inserted i in notch 10 on thereeland the reel wound either by .hand or by handle 16, the units indicated by reel 6 while the strip is severed. Cords 21 can be passed through loops or notches 9 as illustrated in Figure '1 and tied aboutthe small coil preliminarily to removing the'coil from reel 6 which can 1"indicates $6611" bebolted to reel rack 2 as through hole 21 above Having thus fully described inyinvention, I
claim:
1. A coil rackradapted to hold and in which a coil of elongated material can rotate;' a reel, a reel support adaptedto nest over the coil in the coil rack and'means for associating the reel support with the coil rack to'permit reeling material directly from a coil in the coil rack,
*2. A coil'rack comprising a loop adapted to encircle a coil on a diameter thereoi centrally positioned supports 'on each side of the loop and a base secured to said supports, a reel, .a reel support adapted to nest over the coil in the coil rack and means forassociating the reel support with the coil rack to permit reeling material directly from a coil in the coil rack.
3. A coil display and dispensing device comgaging the coil diametrically thereof and supporting means therefor, a reel having a transverse peripheral notch, a transverse peripheral slot and a spindle, a U-shaped reel support adapted to embrace the coil radially, having notches in the ends of its legs to receive the ends of the reel 1 spindle and means for operatively associating the prising a coil rack whichincludes means for en- 0011 rack, reel and reel support whereby the coiled material can be wound fromthe coil positioned in the coil rack directly to the reel. 1
