s claim.. (ciu-so) The present invention relates to lling tube closure caps, admirably adapted for use on gasoline tanks and radiators of motor operated vehicles, but whose general application is contemplated by the claims.
It is the chief characteristicof the present invention to provide a novel construction of means whereby the closure cap can be effectively locked on the filling tube, and only'removed therefrom by the person in possession of the proper key.
In carrying out my invention I provide the cap with an opening to accommodate a key actuated lock, characterized by lugs adapted to engage cam-like anges on the interior of the filling 15 tube and opposed stop extensions formed thereon,
when the cap is associated with the tube, while the key actuated bolts of the lock when projected cooperate with said stop extensions of the ilanges to lock the cap against removal. The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detail description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawing forming part of this applitube adapted to be closed by the flanged cap ll provided with the usual gasket 12. The upper edge of the filling tube is turned inwardly to pro- 5 vide opposed depending cam-like anges .13, each being formed with a stop extension 14 at one end 'thereof for a purpose to be hereinafter described. The cap 11 is provided with a central opening to accommodate a key actuated lock, the casing 15 of which is bolted or otherwise suitably sethe caslngisrecessedasatl'andarrangedin lthis recessis a disk 17 secured to the adjacent end of the rotatable member or cylinderls -of the lock. Also slidable through said are the locking bolts 19, 01,.,which is provided A v i Referring in the drawing-1o indicates aiming' it understood that 1 donor ninit myeeiito what cured to the top of the cap. The lower end ofA with a transverse groove 20 to receive one of the pins 21 depending fromthedisk 17. Manifestly the rotation of the member 18 through the instrumentality of the key 22 projects or reti-acts the bolts 19, depending of course upon the 'di- 00 rection of rotation of said member. The disk 17 is notched as at 23 to receive a lug`24 which limits the rotation of the member" 18 in either direction. ff f The bolts 19 are held in the recess by means of a plate 25 bolted or otherwise secured to the adjacent end of the lock Projecting from the edge of the plate 25 at diametrically opposite points are angularly-shaped lugs, each including an upwardly extending portion 26 and a laterally extending portion 27. The corresponding laterally extending portions of these 11188 Q0- voperate with both the cam-like ianges'of the filling tube and y,locking bolts to lock the cap on the tube.' 'i f In practice, the cap is placedv upon the tube with the lugs on the plate 25 passed between the ang 13, after which the cap is partially rotated to bring said lugs into engagement with the stop extensions 14, the lugs snapping in place. Obviously the lugs contacting the stop extensions 14 of the flanges limit the rotation of the cap in one direction. After the cap has been thus associated with the fllling tube, the rotatable member 18 of the lock is turned through the instrumentality of the key 22 to project the bolts 19 outwardly to their active positions. These bolts when projected are located to engage the sides of the extensions 14 opposite the sides'of said extensions engaged by the lugs of the plate 25. The key 22 is then removed, and the cap is effectively locked on the tube 10. Manlfestly the cap cannot be removed by anyone except the person in possession of the proper key for the 'rotatable member 18 of the lock. 'I'he construction is very simple, and the cap can be quickly and conveniently locked on the filling tube or removed therefrom as the occasion may require, by the person in possession of them-oper key.
While it is believed that from the foregoing ydescription the nature and advantages of the in` vention will be readily apparent, I desire to have is herein inustrnted or described and that auch changes may be resorted to when desired as fail within the scope of what is claimed. The type of closure to which this invention is shown applied is disclosed in'U. S.-v Patent No. 1,593,847, no

patent, the parts 6. ,10, v 12, 17, 18 and 24, correspond to the parts respectively herein designated at 13, 14, 11, 28, 27 and 12.
What is claimed is: f 1. The combination with a iilling tube hav- 'ing' spaced internal cam-like vilanges provided with depending end stop extensions, of a closure cap having a central opening, a lock having a casing iitted in said, central opening of theclosure cap, said lock lcasing having an end ilange resting on and secured to the top of said closure cap by means concealed within the latter, said lock including key-actuated bolts arranged to be projected across the lower edges of. said camlike anges into the path o! `said stop extensions for locking said closure cap on said filling tube, a plate secured on the bottom of said lock casing for holding said bolts therein, and lugs projecting from the edge of said plate intermediate said bolts and'adapted to cooperate with said camlike anges for tightly seating the `cap on said nlling tube. l
2. The combination with a filling tube having spaced internal cam-like nanges provided with depending end stop extensions, of a closure cap, a lock having a casing secured to and depending from said closure cap, a plate secured on the bottom of said lock casing and having angular lugs projecting from its edge to cooperate with said cam-like iianges for tightly seating and holding said cap on said iilling tube, said lugs adapting 'of said cap to permit removal of the latter from said nlling tube, said lock including keyactuated bolts held in said lock casing by said plate and arranged intermediate said lugs to be 'projected acro the lower edges oi said flanges venting the aforesaid turning o! the cap and positioning of the lugs and thereby Vpreventing removal of the' cap from said nlling tube.
8. The combination with a iilling tube having spaced internal cam-like flanges provided with depending end stop extensions, of a closure cap, a lock having a casing secured to and depending from said closure cap, a plate secured on the bottom of said lock casing and having lugs projecting from its edge to cooperate lwith said camlike flanges for tightly seating and holding said cap on said nlling tube, said lugs adapted to be positioned between said flanges by turning of said cap to permit removaloi the latter from said iilling tube, said lock including key-actuated bolts held in said lock casing by said plate and arranged intermediate' said lugs to be projected across the lower edges of said ilanges into the path of said stop extensions ior preventing the aforesaid turning of the cap and'positioning of the lugs and thereby preventing removal of the cap from said iilling tube, said cap having a central opening, said lock casing passing through said opening and having a top flange seated and secured on said cap about said opening.
