Description

J. J. WASSER DISPLAY DEVICE Aug. 22, 1933.
Filed Jan. 14, 1929 Patented Aug. 22, 1933 PATENT OFFICE DISPLAY DEVICE Joseph J. Wasser, St. Louis, Mo., assignor to Pevely Dairy Company, St. Louis, Mo., a Corporation of Missouri Application January 14, 1929. Serial No. 332,258`
1 Claim.
This invention relates to display devices.
An object of the invention is to provide a dise play device comprising a piece of flexible material rolled into conical form and having its ends 5 attached together so that said device may be passed over the neck of a bottle or the like and seated on the shoulder for display purposes.
Other objects will appear from the following description, reference being made to the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 is a view showing the device extended before being rolled in the proper form for use.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the completed device made from the form .shown in Fig. 1.
The form of Fig. 1 for producing the display device of Fig. 2 is obtained by forming or cutting a sheet of material 1 to obtain an arcuate outer or lower edge 2 and an arcuate inner or upper edge 3. As shown, the upper edge 3 is formed eccentrically with respect to the edge 2 but on a radius of equal length. The material 1 is preferably of paper or other pliable material, upon the surface of which printed or pictorial matter may be displayed.
Near one end of the piece of material l an approximately radial slit 4 is formed wholly between the inner and outer edges so that said slit 4 does not intersect any of the edges of the piece of material in which it is formed. On the opposite end of the sheet l a tongue 5 is formed. This tongue 5 projects obliquely toward the plane of one of the edges of the sheet 1. In the embodiment shown. the tongue 5 projects obliquely toward the tangent to the edge 3 at the point where the edge 7 intersects the same, and is defined on its inner side by an edge 6 extending to intersection with an approximately radial edge 'l at the end of the sheet l. The outer edge 8 of the tongue 5 is approximately parallel with the edge 6 and extends to intersection with a shoulder formed by a short cut 9 extending from the edge 8 to intersection with the end edge l0 of the sheet 1. The edges 'I and l0 as shown r are approximately in radial alinement.
The length of the slit 4 is approximately equal to the radial width of the tongue 5 whether such radial width be on the radius of curvature of the edge 2 or on the radius of curvature of the edge r 3. That is to say, the tongue 5 can be passed through the slot 4 and the shoulder 9 engaged at one end of the slot. As shown in Fig. 2, the end of the sheet 1 on which the tongue 5 is formed laps the opposite end of the sheet and the tongue extends through the-slot 4 and has the shoulder 9 interlocked at the lower edge of the slot. By this means the ends may be easily connected and disconnected.
From the foregoing it is apparent that I have provided a display device that is constructed, designed and adapted specially for placement on bottles and the like. Any appropriate advertisements or displays may be formed or displayed upon the outer surface of the device shown. The smaller ends of these devices permit the end and neck of a bottle to be placed therethrough, but will not permit passage of the larger portion of the bottle beyond the neck thereof. Accordingly, the devices will be supported upon and about the neck of a bottle and constitutes an inexpensive and attractive display device capable of being manufactured at permissible cost and applied without diiculty. The construction and formation of the device may be varied otherwise than as specically shown and described without departure from the nature and principle of the invention. I do not restrict myself unessentially, but what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent isz- A display device comprising a flat section of pliable material having its upper and lower edges curving on radii of the same length, said flat section being adapted to be rolled into tapered form with its ends overlapping and having the upper and lower edges of the overlapping portions of said ends approximately even with each other and one of said ends having a slit therein, and a tongue projecting angularly from the opposite end of said section and having approximately parallel side edges and being adapted to be inserted and withdrawn through said slit.
