To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, IsiDoRn Hnrrz, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combination Sandwich Holders and Advertising Devices, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in combination sandwich holder and advertising devices and has for its object to provide a device which will serve to secure the sandwich layers together and provide a handling means for the consumer, so that no knife and fork need be served.

Another object of the invention resides in the provision of a device made from a sanitary non-corrosive material upon which a monogram, initial, or advertisement may be printed or embossed.

The device is particularly useful for parties, ftes, banquets and similar gatherings where sandwiches are served, as it not only provides a sanitary, dainty and ornamental sandwich securing means which after use may be discarded, but also it may be used as a favor as the hosts or guests monogram or initial may be printed or embossed thereon. Further it may if desired be substituted in lieu of place cards, or if used in restaurants or delicatessen stores, it may bear the name of the vendor or his advertisement. It may be further used to identify various kinds of sandwiches, where many kinds are prepared in advance, as during the noonday rush in eating places of all kinds.

With the above and other objects in view which will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will be fully set forth in the following specification, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,

Referring now to the drawings in detail, the numeral 10, designates generically a sandwich, consisting of the customary top and bottom layers 11 and 12 respectively between which is the customary filling 13. In the usual practice, the sandwich is cut diagonally and turned so as to form a diamond, and I find that it may then be desirable to secure the two halves together by projecting the prongs of my device thereinto as shown in Figures 1 and 2.

The securing and advertising device comprises a body 14 cut in any suitable design and provided at one edge with prongs 15 and 16 which extend therefrom in slightly divergent planes and are preferably gracefully curved to lend to the generally pleasing contour of the whole.

Recognizing that all sandwiches are not of equal thickness, and as a consequence my holder will necessarily no doubt have to be made in various sizes, still it is my desire to reduce the number of sizes required to the minimum, and to this end, 1 preferably provide the edge of the body between the prongs with a bevel 17 which will facilitate the en trance of a portion of the body into the upper layer 11 of the sandwich 10 in case such is necessary.

In some cases it may be found desirable to enter the prongs 15 and 16 at an angle and yet keep the body in a plane perpendicular to the sandwich, I therefore provide for the bending of the prongs as at 18 in Figure 5.

Figure 7 illustrates a further modification of the device which is designed to permit of easy entranceinto the sandwich and also effects considerable saving of material, since it is my plan to cut the devices from a single strip of material 19 as illustrated in Figure 6. In this form of my invention, the body is designated by the numeral 20 and like the body 14 it is formed with the prongs 21 and 22 which extend therefrom in slightly divergent planes. Formed on the body between the prongs is a tongue 28, the lower edge of which is bevelled as at 24: to permit of easy insertion into the sandwich.

Obviously any desirable matter may be printed or embossed on the body as at 25 and the device may thus be used as a favor, place card or advertising device, or in some instances as a marking device to indicate the kind of sandwich. 7

While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing frorn the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

What is claimed is 1. A device of the class described comprising, a body, spaced prongs on the body extending in the same general direction, but slightly divergent, and a bevelled edge on the body between the prongs. V

2. A device of the class described comprising, a body, spaced slightly divergent prongs on the body, a space on the body upon which matter may be printed and a bevelled'edge on the body between the prongs, thewholecut from a single strip being adapted to be of material. r,
