Serial No. 554,479
1 Claim. (Cl. 299-97) This invention relates to improvements in laundry sprayers, and its objects are to provide a simple and efficient device of this character adapted for sprinkling clothes prior to and during the ironing thereof, to provide a device to be held and operatedwith one hand, and to provide a device which may be readily dismounted for cleaning purposes.
Another object is to provide a sprayer capable of throwing a fine spray.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a top plan view of a sprayer embodying the features and advantages of this invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the sprayer. Fig. 3 is a sectional detail view of the spray nozzle. Fig. 4 is a detail plan View `of a packing gland member. Fig. 5 is a detail plan view of a valve retaining member. Fig. 6 is a detail side View of a valve retaining member, Fig. 7 is a detail front view of the spray spreader.
Referring in detail to the drawing, container 8 is adapted to receive the fluid that is to be sprayed, and has a screw top 7, engaging with a detachable cover 9. A handle 10 is cast integral with cover 9. 'Ihe pump barrel 11 and discharge cylinder 12 are cast integral with cover 9. Discharge cylinder 12 is provided with a nozzle cap 13, screwed thereto, and in which is mounted a spray spreader 14 disposed adjacent to orifice 15. Spreader 14 has a delector 16 and inclined grooves 17 for transforming water into a fine spray. Inclined grooves 17 serve to` impart a whirling movement to the spray as it enters orifice 15. A gasket 18 is interposed between nozzle cap 13 and cylinder 12.
In use, the container is grasped with one hand, with the thumb upon the end of plunger 22. On outward stroke of the plunger when actuated by spring 23, a quantity of water is drawn into pump barrel 11. On inward stroke of the plunger, actuated by the thumb of theuser, the water within v34 for chamber 32.
The sprayer as shown and described herein is well adapted for the purpose intended, is held and operated by one hand of the user, allowing the other hand for manipulating the clothes, can be readily dismounted, cleaned and inspected, and will not leak, thereby avoiding injury to clothes and other objects that would be damaged by water.
I claim:
In a laundry sprayer, the combination with a container and a detachable cover therefor, of a pump integral with the cover and extending diagonally to the bottom of the container, a handle integral with the cover, a plunger for the pump extending adjacent to the handle, a packing for the plunger disposed within the pump, a discharge cylinder extending across the top of the cover and integral therewith, a spray nozzle disposed on the end of the discharge cylinder, a'spreader adjustable within the nozzle, a deflector integral with the spreader and cooperating therewith, a ball check valve disposed between the pump and discharge cylinder, a leak chamber formed in the cover and above the packing, a cover for the leak chamber, a communicating passage from the leak chamber to the interior of the container, and a spring within the pump and arranged to actuate the plunger in return movement.
