1 Claim.
The object of the invention is to provide anattachment plug of such form as to incorporate a fuse in its construction, so as to confine the circuit rupture resulting from a defective appliance used in connection with the plug to the plug itself, so that no other part of the line may be affected; to provide an attachment plug in which the fuse is readily renewable; to provide an attachment plug in which the blowing of the fuse is effected in a substantially air-tight chamchanges or alterations and the right is claimed to make any which fall within the scope of the annexed claim.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a central vertical sectional View through a plug constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure l with the fuse barrel removed.
Figure 3 is an elevational View of the fuse barrel.
Figure 4 is a sectional view on the plane indicated by the line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a sectional view on the plane indicated by the line 5-5 of Figure 3.
Figure 6 is a view similar to Figure 1 but showing a modified form of the invention.
Figure 7 is a sectional view on the plane indicated by the line 7-7 of Figure 6.
Figure 8 is an elevational view of the fuse barrel employed in the construction shown in Figure 6.
The invention is constructed in accordance with the general dimensions of an attachment plug of the sparable form, the plug being formed of a molded body. 10 formed on the upper face with the prong receiving slots 11 in which are disposed the prong engaging contacts 12. The lower portion of the body 10 which is of insulating material is surrounded with a corrugated sleeve- 14 in which the body 10 is provided.
, The'bore 18 is designed to receive a fuse carrying barrel 19, headed at the lower end as indicated at 20 to provide a peripheral flange. Conical contacts 21 provided with stems 22-, are seated in the upper and lower ends of the barrel 19 and the barrel is formed axially with a channel 23 which constitutes a fuse carrying channel and in the bottom of which a strip-24 of fusible metal lies extending onto the coni-'- cal faces of the contacts 21. The caps 25 are designed to be frictionally engaged with the contacts 21 and overlapping the ends of the fuse, frictionally retain the latter in place.
The barrel 19 is inserted in the bore 18 of the body 10 and is retained frictionally therein, with the cap 25 at the upper end engaging the contact 17 leaving the cap 25 at the lower end for engagement with the center contact of the receptacle in which the plug may be inserted.
The modified construction illustrated in Figures 6 to 8, the barrel 10 has its bore provided, at an intermediate point, with an integral key 26 which engages in a recess 27 in the fuse barrel 19 after the latter has been inserted in the plug and turned angularly in the latter. The key 26 is of limited extent angularly and the fuse barrel may be readily inserted, since the fuse channel provides a clearance space for axial movement of the barrel until it is inserted full Having described the invention, what is claimed as new and useful is:
An attachment plug comprising a body mem--, ber formed with an exterior spirally corrugated sleeve for engaging a correspondingly formed socket of a receptacle, the body member being formed witha bore and a contact at the closed end of the bore, and a fuse carrying barrel formed with an axial recess opening on one side and constituting a fuse receiving channel, the barrel being provided with contacts at its opposite ends and the fuse being engaged with said contacts, said body member and fuse barrel having releasable interlocking connections.
