Heretofore,- means have been employed for holding a package of yarn which is'usually wound; on a perforated tube but in the conventional; means such as .an extended shaft and the like with a nut or other fastening means on the end thereof, the heated dye liquor expands therod and therefore leakage occurs at the ends of the tube on which the yarn is wound, but by providing aspiral resilient member onto which the'tubes withthe yarn therein is slipped and secured in place bymeans of-a nut on the end thereof, the spiral directiongiven to the flow of the liquidcauses the tube to be turned in the same direction as thenut on the end thereof so as to cause the nut to automatically follow the tube and to become farther" advanced on the holderto prevent any leaking whatever occurring between the tube holding the yarn and the nut.

It is an object of this invention, therefore,
' to provide a holder forpackaged yarn which is wound onto perforated or poroustubes whereby the ends of the tubes will be sealed at all times and the direction of the dye liquor within the tube will cause the tube to automatically turn the nut with it, due to the force of the dye liquor passing along the spiral within the tube to prevent any leakage of" the dyestuff at the ends of the tube but will cause the dyestuff to be forced out thru the perforations in the tube and the yarn on thetube.

l-Ieretofore, in'the conventional type of holder, there is a rod such as 14 extending all the way thru the tube and secured in thebasememberlO by any suitable means, and when the dye liquor is turned into the device, the rod would expand andtherefore allow leakage, at the end of" the tube, but due to thepeculiar structure-of this 7 device, this is prevented because the spiral motion of the fluid causes the tube and nut 16 to turn at the same time and therefore prevent any leakage at either-'end of the tube 17. l
f QAlso due to the resiliency oftheflspiral 'mem-f 'ber;13, it is possible 'to advance the nut 17 until the tube is held under tension at both ends thereof so that any expansion of member 13 due to the heated dye liquor will fail to cause any leakage at the end thereof, and just before the expansion has been to a point so as to allow leakage, the circular motion of the dye liquor in the spiral will cause the nut and tube to turn together to prevent any leakage at the end of the tube.
In the drawing and specification there has been set forth a preferred embodiment of the invention and although specific terms are employed, they are used in a generic and descriptive sense only and not for purposes of limitation, the scope of the invention being set forth in the appended claims.
I claim: 1
1. In a package holder for yarn dyeing machines, a threaded hollow base member adapted to be secured in a supply pipe of the dyeing 'ma-' chine, a resilient spiral member secured in the base member and extending unsupported therefrom, a threaded member secured in the other end of the spiral member, a nut on said threaded n'i'e'mberfor resiliently "confining the package of yarn betwe'en the base member and the nut.

In'a'package holder for a yarn dyeing machine, said machine having a supply pipe, a base member adapted to threadably engage a perforation in said supply pipe, a resilient spiral member having one end secured in said base member, said base member and spiral member having a passageway therein, a threaded member secured in the other end of said spiral member to close the passageway, a nut mounted on the threaded member for confining a package around the spiral member and against the'basemember.
