Description

R. S. CRAIG. PLAST-ERING-HAIR BALES.
No, 192,235 Patented'June19,1877.
'- extracted therefrom than otherwise.
ROBERT S. CRAIG, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO JOSEPH A. MORRIS, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLASTERlNG-HAIR BALES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 192,235, dated June 19, 1877 application filed February 14, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT S. CRAIG, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, State of Ohio, have invented an Improvement in Plastering- Hair Bales, of which the following is a specification:
My invention has for its object the preparing oi plasterers hair in such sized and shaped packages as that the greatest economy and convenience in shipping and use may be attained. And my invention consists in an improved process of forming plasterershair bales, more fully described hereafter.
Figure l is a sectional view illustrating the manner of forming my improved plasterershair bale. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the box in which the bale is formed. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of my improved bale or package. Fig. 4 is a perspective view illustrating the manner of securing a number of packages together for shipment.
Ais a press that may be of any desired style. B is the baling-box wherein the bale is formed, and C a finished bale or package.
The box B is formed in two parts hinged together at b and provided with stapleandstrap fastenings b, to secure it together when in use. By reason of the split box it isevident that a much denser packed bale may be I11 operalion the box B is placed in the press and firmly secured by fastenings b from opening. A quantity of hair is then placed in the box, which quantity is previously weighed and fur nished to weigh a given amount-say, the number of required pounds per bushel, standard measure. The hair is then compressed to a given or desired bulk and secured in this position in the box, which box may be taken from the press to make way for another;- and the hair thus left under pressure may be so retained a sufficient length of time as to allow it, by its natural tendency, to assume a set form and remain so when relieved from prestendency, it assumes a set character, a supe rior form of packing is attained that will excel in size, consequent cheapness of shipping by bulk, and convenience of handling, any of the heretofore-used methods.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- The herein-described process of forming plasterers-hair bales, substantially as specifiedtl1at is to say, first pressing the hair in a baling-box by means of a suitable press, then retaining the compressed hair in the baling-box until it sets, and then applying the wrapper.
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
ROBERT S. CRAIG.
