Description
UNITED STATES- PATENT OFFICE.
RIQHARD RAB Y, JR., OF LOUDONVILLE, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLOTHES-LINE HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 192,188, dated June 19, 1877; application filed April 2, 1s71.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Brennan BABY, jr., of Loudonville, in the county of Ashland and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Clothes-Line Holder, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a central vertical section of my improved clothes-line holder. Fig. 2 is a partial plan view. Figs. 3 and 4 are detail views of parts of the holder.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre sponding parts. i
The object of my invention is to provide a clothes-line holder which is capable of supporting a great length of line, which may be folded compactly together, and which is strong and durable,
Referring to the drawing, A is a disk of Wood or other suitable material in which are cut radial grooves a for receiving the arms B, and to which the rod 12, bent into circular form, is secured by staples 0. Hooks d project from the upper surface of the arms B, which are capable of engaging the rod b.
A disk, 6, is secured to the upper side of the disk A, and is provided with radial grooves j, which are wide enough to receive the hooks d, but not wide enough to admit the arms B. The disks A e are bored centrally to receive a standard, g, by which the holder is supported.
O is a notched disk which is supported above the disk 0 by standards h, which are placed directly over the radial grooves of the disks A e.
The notches in the disk 0 correspond in number and position with the grooves of the disks A 0, so that the arms B, when folded up, rest in them.
The inner ends of the arms B are rounded to admit of raising them into a vertical or inclined position, as shown in Fig. 1, when the hooks d engage the rod b, and they are retained in this position by books i that are jointed to the standards h.
When the arms B are lowered into a horizontal position their inner ends slide under the disk 0, and their outer ends are connected by long hooks D which are attached to oblong eyes E secured to the ends of the arms B.
The hook D of one arm engages the eye E of the adjacent arm, so that when the arms are spread they are braced one to the other by the said hooks, so that the whole is stron and rigid. r
Tothe arms B any number of lines may be attached, or a single line may be stretched from the center to the circumference in a spiral line.
When the arms B are folded together the hooks D are placed along the side of the arms B, where they are retained by the staple j. i The advantages claimed for my improved clothes line holder are that it is simple and inexpensive and is capable of spreading a great length of line.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent v 1. The grooved disks A 0, rod b, notched disk 0, standard h, and arms B, having hooks d, substantially as shown and described.
2. The hooks D and oblong eyes E, in combination with the arms B, substantially as herein shown and described.
RICHARD BABY, JR.
