JOHN (BUSHING, OF HOUSTON, TEXAS.
COMBINED BAG AND TWINE HOLDER.
TJPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 344,771, dated June 29, 1886.
Application filed February 3:1885. Serial No. 154,841. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN OUSHING, of Houston, in the county of Harris, and in the State of Texas, have invented certain new. and usefullmprovements in Combined Bag and Twine Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 shows a view in perspective of my bag and twine holder; Fig. 2, a vertical 1ongitudinal section of the twine-holder; Fig. 3, a detail view of the holder'sleeve with the heads thereon.
Letters of like name and kind refer to like parts in each of the figures.
The object of my invention is to provide a new, useful, and convenient device for holding bags and twine; and to this end my invention-consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter specifled.
In the drawings, A designates the base, of any desired shape; and B, a vertical standard fastened and supported thereon. From the upper end of this standard projects the 'vertical stationary shaft 0. Resting upon the standard and revolving about the shaft 0 is the rotary horizontal table or shelf D. Upon the shaft, above this table or shelf, is placed the top E, which is in its lower end formed with a hole adapted to fit and receive the up per portion of said shaft. On the periphery or edge of this shelf are several hooks, F F, of any desired number, upon which can be hung a number of bags to be detached there from readily, as desired for use. It is intended that upon the several different hooks shall be hung numbers of bags of different sizes. If a bag of a certain size is desired, the shelf is turned until the hook carrying the bags of the desired size is brought within reach.
Fixed upon the base A, at one side of standardB,istheshortuprightstandard G. Through thislatter standard and into the other extends the removable rod H, preferably provided at its outer end with a loop or handle, I, by which it can be readily pulled out or thrust into place. Journaled upon this rod as a fixed shaft is a tubular sleeve, K, which, as shown, is screwthreaded externally for some distance from each end.
Upon the ends of the sleeve or tube are screwed the heads L L, having their outer sides preferably made plane or flat, and on 5 their inner sides the hub-like portions M M, extending inward along the sleeve. These hubs can be made conical; but Iprefer to make them so that, as seen in the longitudinal section, their sides are slightly concaved or curved inward. The hubs as thus shaped fit closely into the ends of the ball of cord N, placed between the heads.
WVith the construction of screw-threaded sleeve and heads screwed thereon any-sized ball can be properly held on the holder.
To place a ball in position, the supportingrod II is pulled out to release the tube K. One of the heads L is then unscrewed and removed from the tube, The ball of cord is then placed over the latter, and the head is again screwed onto the tube until it holds the ball firmly between it and the other head, with the hubs on the heads extending into and fitting the ends of the central opening through the ball.
If desired, the shaft 0 can be continued upward, and the top E can be made in the form of a tubular sleeve or hub attached to or made in one piece with the shelf.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is-- 1. In combination with standard B and the standard G, the rod I, extending between the standards, the tube on the rodbetween said standards, screwthreaded near its ends, and the heads screwed on the tube, provided with hubs on their inner sides, adapted to fit into the ends of the central opening of a ball of twine or cord, substantially as described, for the purpose set forth.
2. In combination with the standard and the rotary table supported thereon and provided with a series of hooks, the second standard, the rod extending between and supported by the standards, and the tube on the rod, provided with adjustable heads adapted to engage and hold a ball of cord or twine in place on the tube, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
