Description

W. H. PECKHAM.
I SPECTACLE-FRAME. No. 192,125. Patent e6. June19,'18 77-.

U ITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. PEGKHAM, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN SPECTACLE -FRAMES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 192,125, dated June 19,1877 application filed June 7, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. PEcK- HAM, of Jersey City, county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Spectacle -Frames; and I do hereby declare that the following drawings and specifications are descriptions of the improvement, suflicieut to enable those skilled in the art to practice it.
My improvement consists of a double nose piece, closely fitted together (either soldered, welded, brazed, or secured by any other means) at letter a, forming a nose-piece which, with its elasticity, gives a softness to the side bows bearing on the temples or side ofthe head when placed on the face.
My improvement further consists of the spring b, made by forming the double nosepiece, the eye-wire being separated at 0, so
two soldcrings instead of one, making it less liable to break at the point which is the weak est part of the spectacle-frame. The end piece which holds the temples or bows that rest against the side of the head being deprived of the screws and slots which have been heretofore used for the purpose of putting in and screwing the glass, gives it a more durable character, at a less expense in manufacture, thereby bringing the article within the reach of all to purchase.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a view of the nose-piece connected with the eye-wire that contains the glass Fig. 2, view of the nose-piece when not attached to the frame; Fig. 3, View of the whole frame when completed.
I claim- 7 In spectacle-frames, the nose-piece b, made in two pieces, suitably connected together through the body and detached at the ends,
so as to form a spring for the lens-frame, sub- 7 I stantially as and for the purpose set forth.
