This invention refers to a closure for bottles or the like, and its object is to provide a construction particularly applicable to the crown type of bottlecap, and which 5 will allow the operations of producing vacuum or pressure in the bottle to be performed after the cap or closureA has been applied.
ln the accompanying drawing are shown four pieces which constitute the closure, l respectively in Figs. 1-4, while Fig. 5 represents a cross section of the complete closure showing the relative position .oi the tour pieces.

w in its open end with an annular flange 3 which may be adjusted without pressure in the inside of the metallic cap 1. Said valve chamber is provided with a perforation in its closed end, said perforation communicatin with the interioriof the bottle or the l is the Washer which may be made o cork, rubber or any other convenient material, and which is of a slightly greater diameter than that of the metallic cap so that it will enter into' said metallic cap with rassure. Before it is inserted in said cap, it is placed on the ilange of the valve chamber, wherefore it will serve as a support tor samewithin the metallic cap. Before introducing the valve chamber "1@ with the washer in the metallic cap, the valve 5 is placed in the interior of the valve chamber in order to seal the hole 6 o the same or the hole 7 of the metallic cap 1. The metallic cap w 7 made trom the outsi e inwardly with the object of producing a burr 8 on the inside, which will prevent the valve 5 closing completely the hole 7 during) the operation of orming vacuum in the ottle or the like, m thus allowing the air or .gas to be extracted.

In this case a burr is also provided on lthe outer surface of the cap around the hole 7, which will make it possible to seal said opening with solder.
@nce the bottle or the like is filled, the cap ,Y or closure is placed, and according to the class of valve action selected and the `corresponding placing of the burrs, the valve member 5 will close or seal either the hole of the valve chamber or that of the metallic cap by the corresponding operation of producing vacuum or pressure in the bottle, making it impossible for the air or gas to escape from or enter into the bottle, respectively,
The closure according t0 the present invention can be a plied with the machinery actually inI use or crown capping, as the whole aggregate is conned within the limits of the ordinary standard cap of the crown type.
Having thus described the invention, what l claim is:
1. A valved closure for bottles and the like which will permit the passage of gas through the closure in one direction after it has been applied, comprising a cap, a
tubular element having one end open and Y the other end closed, an annular flange surrounding the open end, said tubular element being positioned in the cap with the annular flange lying against the inner face of the top of the cap and adapted to lie between this face and the rim offthe bottle when the cap is applied on the bottle, the closed end of the tubular element and the central portion of the cap being provided with apertures, and a valve? body loosely positioned in the tubular element adapted to close one of the apertures.
2. A valved closure for bottlesand the like which will permit the passage of gas y tionof the cap tures, a valve body loosely positioned in the Y through the closure in one direction after it has been applied, comprising a cap, a tubular element having one end open and theother end closed, an annular flange surrounding the open end, said tubular element being positioned in the cap with the annular flange lying against the inner face of the top of the cap and adapted to lie between this face and the rim of the bottle when the cap is applied on the bottle, the closed end of the tubular element and the central portion of the cap being provided with apertures, avalve body loosely positioned in the tubular element adapted to close on the apertures, and means associated with the aperture in the cap for preventing closing of this aperture by the valve body to permit Withdrawal' of gas from the bottle.
3. A valved closure for bottles and the like which will permit the passage of gas through the closure in one direction after it has been applied, comprising a cap, a tubular element having one end open and the other end closed, an` annular flange surrounding the open end, said tubular element being positioned in the cap with the annular flange lying against the inner face of the top of the cap and adapted to lie between this face and the rim of the bottle When the cap is applied on the bottle, the closed end of the tubular element and the central porbeing provided with apertubular element adapted to close one of the apertures, and means associated witho the aperture in the closed end of the tube for preventing closing of this aperture by the valve body to permit the introduction of gas into the bottle.
4. A valved closure for bottles and the like which will permit the passage of gas through the closure in one direction after it has been applied, comprising a cap, a tubular element having one end open and the other end closed, an annular flange surrounding the open end, said tubular element being positioned in the cap with the annular flange lying against the inner face 'of the top of the cap and adapted to lie between this face and the rim of the bottle when the cap is applied on the bottle, the closed end of the tubular element and the central portion of the cap being provided with apertures, a valve body loosely positioned in the tubular element adapted to close one of the apertures, and means associated with one of said apertures to to permit the iovv of ing.
5. A valve closure for bottles and the like which will permit the Withdrawal of gas from the bottle after the closure has been applied, comprising a cap, a tubular element having one end open and the other end closed, an annular flange surrounding the open end, said tubular element being positioned in the cap with the annular flange lying against the inner face of the top of the cap, a resilient gasket positioned in the gas through this openprevent closing thereof.

A valve closure for bottles and the like which will permit the introduction of gas into the bottle under pressure after the Closure has been applied, comprising a cap, a tubular element having one end open and the other end closed, an annular flange surrounding the open end, said tubular element being positioned in the cap with the annular flange lying against the inner face of the top of the cap, a resilient gasket positioned in said cap and adapted to maintain the annular flange against the inner face ofthe top of the cap, the closed end of the tubular element and the central portion of the ca being provided with loosely positioned in the tubular element adapted to close the aperture in the top of the cap, the aperture in the closed end of the tubular element bein()` surrounded by a burr which cooperates with the valve body to prevent closing of this aperture, and the' ARTHUR J.
