Description
E. KRANZFELDER HAT STORAGE BOX July 25, 1933.
Filed July 23, 1931 Ihmentor lattorney Patented July 25, 1933 UNITED STATES EDGAR xnenzrnnnna, or WASHINGTON; DISTRICT or COLUMBIA rrArsronAeE BOX o Application filed 11113 23,
The present invention relates to improvements in a hat storage 'box and has for an object to provide a box or container of suit able height and capacity for the storage of hats in the home, whereby these hats may be held upon suitable holders in a closed container excluding moths or other insects and dust or foreign matter.
It is another object of the invention to provide an improved storage box for hats which will preserve both mens and .ladies hats in good condition and appearance and against deterioration from light, insects, etc.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved hat storage box for use in thehome, in which straw hats may be kept in good condition during the winter months and felt hats in the summer months, and in which provision is made for adjustable and movable hat'stands or holders of various heights whereby hats may be properly spaced from one another and from the walls of the container.
With the foregoing and other view, the invention will be more fully 'de scribed hereinafter, and will be more particularly pointed out in the claims appended hereto.
In the drawing, wherein like symbols refer to like or corresponding parts throughout the several views,
Figure 1 a perspective view with parts broken away, showing an improved hat storr age box constructed in accordance with the present invention. r V
-Figure 2 shows afragmentary perspective view of the bottom of the box, showing one'type of adjustment for the hat stands, an V Figure 3 is a similar view showing a modification. 7
Referring more particularly to the draw ing, in accordance with the invention, a box or container is provided made up pref- 5 erably of a bottom 10, front wall 11, rear wall 12, ends 13 and 14 and an open top which may receive a suitable cover.
A novel form of cover is; shown in the drawings, consisting of a rear section 15 0 having flanges 16 adapted to extend over the objects in 193L- Serial No. 552,7 1.
The cover also includes a front section 17 which may be hinged to the rear cover 'sec tion 15, if desired, so as to permit same to be swung up into theposition indicated in priate material,'for instance strong cardboard, Wood or other light material. It may be painted in bright colors or covered with cretonne or other attractive material.
The bottom 10 of the box is provided with a number of holes or sockets 23 therein, preferably of the tapered form as shown in Figure 2, whereby-to receive the corresponding- 1y tapered base sections'24 of the hat stands The openings or sockets 23-may beprovided inintersecting rows, as indicated, or
they may be grouped in any other desired arrangement. The size-and formation of 50 these sockets or openings may be varied as desired. Also, hat stands .25 of various sizes and shapes may be provided, each being 're-. movable from the sockets 23.
In accordance with the modification 35 shown in Figure 3, the bottom 10a of the box, instead of having openings or sockets therein, receives the dowel or otherpins26' of the box. I-Iat stands of various heights 7 will be employed in order that one hat may fit above or beneath the brim of another and .thus economize on the enclosed space within the container.
Access to the container may readily be had by simply swinging up the front sec tion 17 of the cover. This will give access to a large portion of the box. I
Should it be necessary toremove the entire cover, the two sections may simply be swung backion the rear wall 12. The cover is, therefore, easily opened and closed, and when closed will form a dust and insect tight container which will be light proof. The hats are thus stored and kept in good condi ti-on.
'It will be obvious that various changes in the construction, combination and arrangement oi parts could be made, whlch could be used wlthout departing from the spirit of my invention, and I do not mean to limit the invention to such details, except as part1cularly pointed out in the claim.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim and desire to'secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
A simple and flexible hat chest for the storage "of hatswhen not in use as a protection from dust, moths, etc. comprising a chest body consisting of a bottom, sides and ends, pegs upstanding in numerous intersecting rows from the bottom, slender hat stands having wide socketed bases to fit removably over a selected pin, the stands being of variableheight to permit the storage of a large number of hats in small space by. superposition, and a removable cover forthe chest,
