p CHICAGO, ILLINOIS WATER HEATER The general object of my invention is tok provide a water heaterl which is simple inconstruction and efficient in operation.
-A more particular object of the invention is to provide a heater consisting of superposed conical coils with unitary means for connecting` the coils in series Vand prevent'- ing the heating gases from passing through the space at the centers of the coils.
A further object of the invention is to pro` vide a water heater composed of superposed conical coils with header means connecting the coils in series, and having` therein the inlet and outlet connections for the heater.
Another object is to provide .a heater of the class described with means for preventing the trapping of air within the coils when the heater is being filled with water. i

Header 5 consists oftwo integral sections 6 and 7, section 6 being substantially horizontal and filling the central space in the upper convolution of coil l, while section 7 is substantially vertical and extends through the central space between the coilsfrom the lower part of section 6 to the upper convolution of coil 3. The interior of header 5 is divided by partitions 8 and 9 into inlet compartment 10,intermediate compartment 11, and outlet compartment 12.
Inlet compartment 10 is provided wlth a heater inlet opening 13 located 'in the rear `face of the header and coil connection opening 14 located in the front face of the header and adjacent the inlet of coil 1. The operation of the device is as follows:
-Water enters the inlet compartment of the header` at opening 13, andpasses through inletof coilV 1. The water passes downwardthen into coil 3, in which it lowsdownwardly. From coil 3, the water :flowsAi into 'the lower part of coil- 4 and Vthence tothe outlet compartment of the header. Y
y It will be noted that in my heater, the' ysaid compartment through opening 14 tothe y header connects withV the top of each coil.
This arrangement readilylends itself to the elimination of air from the coils whenthe heater is first filled withwater as Vthe air in each coil will rise to the header compartments.,v In order to allow air toy escape from the inlet and intermediate compartments to the heater outlet kI provide small vent holes 22 in the partitions 8 and A9.
Various modifications may be 'made without departingfrom the invention. as Vdefined in the appended claims.
