The invention comprises a series of holow water heating units having a central ineans for communicating with each other and inclosed in a non-radiating casing in which a noirconductor such as asbestos is iuclosed. In this manner the water is first compelled to flow the entire length of the unit and to return between the forks to the central outlet, thus giving it two ere posures to the heated surface of bottom and sides of the unit and raising the temperature'quickly before itflows upward to the next unit. The units superimposed upon the lowest unit provide for a return circula-- tion inv a somewhat different manner, as follows: A vertical partition H runs through this hollow unitand is arranp'ed on two vertical planes, connected together by a transverse and prefenibly $5 shaped member H at the center of the unit. Upon one side of this 3 shaped partition in the bot tom. of the unit is located the inlet opening l leading; from the opening G below anl at the other is located the outlet openinn J in the top plate of the unit, which leads to the unit above. The water entering the unit from below through the opening I must divide its How and pass entirely around both ends of the vertical partition which are spaced from the end walls of the unit at K, K to provide passages for this purpose. The water then flows back from the ends to the outlet opening on. the other side of the partition. Each unit above is constructed. in substantially the same inanner, and the upper and lower walls of the units are preferably horizontal to equalize the flow over all parts of the units. so that no portion of the water can be heated to a higher degree of temperature than another.
