Description
ABSORBENT CONTAINER Filed Feb. 15. 1952 Big. Z.
attorney tainer may be in use.
Patented July 11, 1933 JOHN C. DAVIS, F BOWLING GREEN, KENTUCKY 'AZBBOBIBEN'J. CONTAINER Application filed February 15,1932. Serial No. 598,178.
This invention relates to an improvement in absorbent containers for glass receptacles and the like. It is well known that when a Coco Cola glass or any liguid receptacle, 1s
placed upon the counter o a drug store, the moisture from the glass or the overflow of the liquid in the glass leaves a small puddle upon the counter which necessitates the contmuous wiping of the counter to avoid damagin the sleeves ofthe customers. It is also inown that whenthe glass is removed from the counter or tray 'in which it is served that the aforesaid overflow or moisture collected on the'bottom of the glass ma dri upon the customers clothin Iii order to avoid this I have provlded a container which will absorb the moisture or liquid from the glass and keep the counter and clothing com aratively dry. This'consecreted by scallops or jagged edges and forms a convenient man- 'ner of advertising.
Because of the cheapness of the material used in this absorbent container and simglicity of construction, it will be possible to 'scard the container each time at a minimum cost.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 is an elevation of thecontainer Figure 2 is a sectional view of the same: Figure 3 is a sectional view on line 3-3 of Figure 2.-
Figure 4 is a blank of the container. 3 Figures 5 and 6 show modifications of the forms that may be used.
Referring to Figure 2, which shows a glass 10 located in the container 11. The container 11 may be made out of one piece, 0 havinga rim 12, a bottom 13 and a fla 14. The entire material is constructed 0 an absorbent material such as ordina blotter paper and is provided on the'outside with a glazed finish for decorative urposes and 4 for retaining the moisture in the container.
The obvious reason for making the'container out of absorbent agar and rovidin the outside with a lazed 'sh is 5) prev the deterioration o the absorbent .paper due to the abmrption of the liquid. I
'With this construction it can be'readil that the exterior glazed surface wifi act as a water retaining medium and insure the rigidity of the structure.

so as to firmly secure the glass in the container. The manner of attaching. the flap to the container will be described below.'
A separate disc 15 which is made entirely of the absorbent material is adhesively attached to the bottom 13 to absorb any moisture already present.
Referring to Figures 5 and 6, the edge 12 may be decorated in any manner' such as indicated. by the scalloped edges 16 or the jagged edges 17.
The container is formed by first bending over the flap 14 and the bottom, 13 of the blanks shown, and then folding the edge 12 v as indicated by the dotted lines 18, and then rolled around until the edges overlap a little and then adhesively attaching the ed es. The additional absorbent bottom 15, wh1ch is cut to fit flush with the edges of 11, is adhesively attached after the forming of the container.
Referring to Figures 4, 5 and e, awesorbent material is sciyed away at 19, so as to leave only the glazed surface present, in order to ensure perfect adhesion.
Havin thus fully described-my invention,
1. An absorbent coaster for a glass com prising a cylindrical portion and a bottom, said bottom having secured thereto a flap portion adapted to be turned vertically in respect to-sald bottom so as to lie against the inner wall otsaid cylindrical portion and adapted to have cooperative relation with sai lass.
2. absorbent container for a glass comprising'a blank, said blank having a marginal area and a bottom area, said bottom area havin attached thereto an extending flap, said ap, when the marginal area is bent in cylindrical sha being adapted to lie against the cylmdrical wall and forms a securing wedge for the glass.
3. An absorbent container for a glass com prising a blank, said blank having a marginal area and a bottom area, sald bottom area havin attached thereto anextending flap, said a when the marginal area is ,bent in cylindrical shape, being adapted to lie against the cylindrical wall and forms a securmgwedge glazed backing. v I
