This invention relates to extension handles, and more particularly to a handle which may be readily attached to a handle of a grip or the like so that, if desired, the device may be supported from the shoulder of the carrier thereof.

An object of this invention is to provide an exceedingly simple but strong extension which may be removably attached and quick ly attached to the handle or other attachable parts of grips, Satchels, bags, or other luggage or articles, the device aiming to provide means whereby a single or a number of articles may be held together so that they may be swung over the shoulder of the carrier and readily transported in this manner.

Another object of this invention is to provide a device of this kind which is exceedingly simple in construction so that it may be readily and cheaply manufactured.

The above and various other objects and advantages of this invention will in part be described in and in part be understood from the following detailed description of the present preferred embodiment, the same being illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a detail front elevation of a device constructed according to the preferred embodiment of this invention;

Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 10 designates generally a flat piece of material in the form of leather or the like, which is flexible and is provided with a forked or bifurcated end portion 11 to whichis attached a rounded or curved handle member 12 which has split or bifurcated end portions 13 which are secured to the forked or bifurcated portions 11 by means of stitching 14 or the like. ' The handlel2 is provided with an inner filling 16 which, if desired, may be formed integral with the reduced portions 135 or may be formed of other material disposed within the handle portion 12 so as to provide a relatively thick handle which can be conveniently disposed in the hand of the holder thereof. This handle 12 is'preferably constructed in a single piece which is looped or constructed in substantially U-shaped form, as disclosed in Figure 3, and the outer row of stitching 14: operates to not only hold the free legs of the handle member 12 together, but also to secure the filler 16 within the looped portion of the handle 12. In this manner, a substantially round handle will be provided wherein the looped portion 17 is disposed on the inner circle of the handle so that there will be a smooth surface contacting with the hand of the carrier or user of the device.

An elongated strap 18 is secured at one end to the body member 10 by means of grommets or rivets 19 and a buckle 20 is interposed between pairs of these grommets or rivets 19 so that the buckle 20 will be securely held in desired operative position. The opposite end of this strap 18 is free and provided with suitable spaced apertures 21 for engagement with the buckle 20 when the strap 18 is looped about the handle of an article of luggage and passed through the buckle 20. Preferably, the body member 10, together with the other component parts of the device, with the exception of the buckle 20 and the rivets or grommets 19, are constructed of leather of relatively heavy or thick construction, so that it will be strong enough to readily support an article of luggage.

This strap 18 may be of any desired length and in like manner, the lower portion of the body member 10 may be constructed of suitable length so that when an article of luggage is engaged with the strap 18, the device herein disclosed may be swung over the shoulder of the individual so as to support the luggage from the shoulder, the handle 12 being engaged by hand so as to maintain the device on the shoulder. However, if desired, the loop or handle portion 12 may be of sufficient size so that a relatively large loop will be provided whereby the device may be supported by passing the arm of the individual through the looped portion of the handle 12 and supporting the loop from the shoulder. V In this manner, the article of luggage will be carried at the side of the individual and the hands of theindividual will be free forany other purpose desired.

In the use of this device, the strap 18 may be either passed through the handle of the article of luggage or this strap 18 may be of suitable length so that it may be passed entirely about,

the outer surface of the article and the free end of the strap 18 engagedwith the buckle so as .to tighten it on the handle or about the- The handle outer surface of the. luggage. portion 12 may thenbe grasped in the hand and, if desired, the arm of the individual may be passed through the looped portion of the handle 12 or it maybe swung over the shoulder so as'to dispose the article, of luggage on the back of the carrier.

It is'obvious, from the foregoing, that an exceedingly simple but. at the same time practical handle extension has been provided which may be so constructed as to either engage a handle already provided on an article of luggage or may be engaged about the outer surface'of the article where nohandle is provided. It is also obvious that this device will make it possible for one individual to carry more articles of luggage at one time, particularly where the articles are large and unwieldy but ofrelatively light weight.

It is, of course, understood that various changes and modifications may be made in the details of construction and design of the above specifically described embodiment of this invention without departing from the spirit thereof, such changes and modifications being restricted only by the scope of the following claim. As an example, the

strap 18 ma have substituted therefor any suitable mec anical' equivalent such for example as a hook member or the like.

I claim 1 As a new article of manufacture, a flexible fiat member having a bifurcated end portion, a looped handle carried by the bifurcated end portion of said member, a filling inserted withinthe handle, an elongated strap, means for securing said. strap to said member, said strap extending in a direction oppositely from said looped handle, and a buckle carried by said strap and said member whereby to maintain said strap in a looped position about an article.
