This invention relates to the art of safety razors and particularly to safety razors of the type employing double-edged, wafer-blades. It is amon the objects of my invention to provide a sa ety razor with means for automatically sharpening or readjusting the minute particles of the functional or executlve edges of the blade; to provide a safety razor of the wafer-blade type with means by which the executive or functional edges thereof may be reconditioned or sharpened or restored to their normal condition; to provide a safety razor of the type notedwith a magnetic means by which the edges of the wafer-blade may be reconditioned or sharpened; to provide a safety razor the body portion of.which is a magnet the poles of which cooperate with the edges of the blade to recondition the'same; to provide a safety razor of the type notgd which is simple, strong, durable and does not have to be taken apart for the purpose of sharpening the edges of the blade after use; to provide a safety razor with means by which the blade thereof can be automaticall reconditioned or sharpened so that a singlelllade may be used indefinitely; to provide a safety razor of the type noted which is simple in construction, economical to manufacture, and is composed of a few simple parts which, under ordinary circumstances cannot be easily broken or injured; and to provide a safety razor oi the type noted which may be laid away as a whole for future use without separating any of its parts, and may be packed in a casing or container for transportation, safe-keeping and protection.
With the foregoing objects in View and others which may be detailed during the course of this description, my invention consists in the parts, features, elements and coinbinations thereof hereinafter described and claimed.
In order that my invention may be clearly understood, I have provided a drawing wherein:

Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates the handle of the razor, the outer end of which is knurled and otherwise formed for easy manipulation; 2 is the body portion of the razor which is U-shaped in crosssection and through the aperture 3 in the body of which the handle 1 extends into engagement with the apertured end 4 of the central, tubular thimble or support 5 which extends vertically within the body member 2, is rigid with the bottom of the latter, and termlnates slightly above the extended arms of said member. The inner end of the handle is centrally bored at 6 and internally threaded for the reception of the screw-pin 7 which extends from the curved clamping member 8 and is integral therewith and located cenfreely through the guard 9 which is centra ly apertured for the purpose, and which at its inner surface rests on the outer end of the support 5 against which it is held firmly by the v clamping member 8 when the handle 1 is manipulated .to turn the same upon the threaded stem 7 thus compressing the end of the tube 5, the guard 9 and the clamp 8 tight-- ly together. The guard 9, at its opposite edges, is provided with a plurality of depending guard fingers 10, and the upper surface of said guard above said fingers is grooved longitudinally at 11 to provide a clearance for the cutting edges of the wafer blade 12 which is centrally perforated for the passage of the stem 7 and which is clamped 0 between the guard 9 and the clamping member 8, and is made to conform transversely. as well as longitudinally to the inner surfaces of said members when the latter are tightly drawn together by the manipulation of the handle 1. As shown in the figures, the clamping member 8 is slightly narrower than the width of the blade 12; but, is slightly longer than said blade, and at its opposite ends is provided with a shouldered ledge 13 against 100 ledges prevent the blade from slipping longitudinally and also perform the function of properly'centering the blade with reference to the guard 9 and the fingers 10 thereof.
The body member 2 is composed of magnetic or magnetized material and its form is such as to constitute a powerful permanent magnet the terminal edges 14 of which are the opposite poles of the magnet. According to my invention, the extremities of the pole portions of the magnet are inwardly curved toward the guard fingers 10 and terminate midway the length of the downwardly extending portions of said fingers; and said terminal portions or poles of the magnet are spaced apart from but are close to the line of guard fingers from end-to-end of the razor. The pole terminals of the magnet are also arranged sufficiently close to the cutting edges of the razor blade to exercise the necessary ma netic attraction for the minute deflecte portions, produced during the course of shaving or while the blade is in use. It is this forceful attraction which reconditions the edges of the blade and sharpens the same, and restores the so-called teeth of said razor blade'edges to the normal plane of the blade-body.
It will be understood that, according to my invention, the poles of the magnet will not be in contact with the guard fingers, and will be sufiiciently close to the edges of the blade to exercise the necessary magnetic attraction for the purposes stated. The space between the pole terminals and the guard fingers is suflicient, together with the separation of said fingers to permit the moisture and lather to pass into the bowed portion or body of the magnet, from which it can readily be removed by jerking the razor or surging the same through a body of warm water, or allowin the water to pour thereover from the spigot and through the open ends of the body member 2.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have produced a very simple, selfsharpening safety razor,'which is compact, strong, durable, easily taken apart and reassembled, and which can be thoroughly and easily cleansed and dried. All the parts may be made of rustproof material or so treated as to be rustproof; and expensive metals may be employed, if desired, according to the amount of value to be embodied in the razor.
Although I have shown the body member 2 I wish it understood that I may simplify the razor by changing the form of the body member and substituting other material, and by making the guard 9 and clamp member 8, either or both, wholly or partly of magnetized material. Thus the magnet for reconditioning the edges of the razor blade may be the sharpening member as well as the guard, the
clamp or the body member. The magnetic body portion may be sold separately from the razor as a complete article of manufacture, thus enabling any safety razor to be converted into a self-sharpening razor, it being understood that said body member may be changed in form for the purpose and according to the make of the razor to which it is to be adapted.
Furthermore, while I have referred herein to a wafer-blade having two cutting or executive edges, it is to be understood that my invention contemplates the use of a blade with only one cutting edge; and, while my invention has been disclosed with reference to safety razors, all or certain features thereof may be adapted to other cutting implements.
Having thus described 111 inventlon, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1s:
1. A safety razor having a blade and means for clamping it in operative position, in combination with a body portion composed of a permanent magnet the free ends of which are arranged adjacent the edge of the blade so as to recondition or sharpen the edge of the latter automatically. I
2. A safety razor composed of a permanent magnet, a handle for supporting the magnet, a blade clamp, a two-edge razor blade held in the clamp, and means between the handle, the magnet and the clamp for securing the several parts in functional relation and to hold the blade with its edges between the poles of the magnet.
3. A sharpening medium for safety razors composed of an approximately U-shaped magnetized member, and tubular supporting means carried between the arms of the member and out of contact therewith, enabling an aperture in its bottom, a tubular member 2:.
