ENVENTOR,
Patented June 20, 1933 NUMA VILLA, OIE CARGASSONNE, FRANCE HEADGEAR Application filed .Tune 28,
My invention relates to headgear which is particularly adapted for womens wear, especially such headgear as is made of elastic material, such as knitted or netted goods adapted to be readily stretched or fitted upon the wearers head and adjusted in varied, optional forms at the pleasure of the wearer.
Objects of my invention are to make such headgear in a single piece; to form a headpocket or crown portion provided with an integral, rearwardly extending portion, adapted to be brought forward over and adjusted around the head pocket so as to retain its place and form without the aid of any fastening elements; to allow such extended portion to be adjusted about the head pocket as a brim or band in various forms and positions so as to vary the style and appearance of the headgear at the wearers pleasure; and to make the donning and dofling of the headgear simple and expeditious; and to obtain the other advantages hereinafter set forth.
In the drawing Fig. 1 is a side view of a piece of headgear embodying my improvements, with the sides flattened against each other; Fig. 2 is a View of the same taken as looking to the right on Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a back view, showing the headgear spread open partially; Fig. 4c is a side view of the headgear assembled on the head of the wearer; Fig. 5 is a view of the headgear taken from the opposite side as shown in Fig. 4; Fig. 6 is a back view of the same and Fig. 7 is a side view showing the loop being drawn around the crown.
Similar reference numerals similar parts in all the figures.
The body of the headgear 1, is preferably formed of a single piece of knitted goods, having a headpocket or crown 2, at one end, and a loop 3, extending from the back of the head-pocket, the ends of the loop merging with the pocket in the back at either side. The length of the loop 3 is such that it may be drawn around the crown when on the head of the wearer, in the form of a band or rim, and will, because of its size and elas- 50 ticity, fit around the wearers head snugly designate 1932. Serial No. 619,833.
enough to retain its position, without discomfort to the wearer.
Before drawing the loop forward over the head, it may be turned over, so that its ends will cross each other from side to side, so as to draw together at the back; and the loop may be adjusted in any desired position upward or downward around the edge of the crown, or raised at one place and/or depressed at another place; and the band formed by the loop may be spread or flattened out, or be rolled or gathered together as the fancy of the wearer may suggest.
The character of the headgear allows it, not only to be donned or doffed quickly and conveniently, but also to be folded or rolled into a compact form, and to be dry cleaned or wet cleaned readily and effectively with out complications because of attached fastenings, irregularly assembled parts or loose or disconnectible attachments.
By knitting the headgear in a single piece, also, it may be made of a uniform texture throughout, free from bunches, knots or seams such as are common where fiat fabrics are afterwards shaped into more or less concavo-convex forms, and are objectionable as affording lodgement for dust or other foreign matters, and as interfering with the convenient cleaning of the headgear.
I wish it to be understood that the form of embodiment of my invention which I have illustrated and explained is to be considered as a preferred, typical example, but not as an exclusive one. For details may be modified by the use of equivalents without departing from the spirit of my invention and the scope of my claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. A headgear consisting of a band of elastic textile material formed into a loop closed at one side to form a head-pocket in one portion of the band, the remainder of the band forming an open loop of a length exceeding that of the head-pocket and permitting it to be drawn over from the back and to snugly surround the head-pocket when in use.
2. A headgear consisting of a band of elas- 100 tic textile material formed into a loop, said p widened in one portion, the widened portion being closed at one side to form a headpocket, the remainder of the band forming a closed loop of a length substantially exceeding that of the head-pocket, thereby permitting crossing thereof at the back and drawing forward over the head-pocketto snugly surround it when in use.
