This stud 14, together with the annular plate 15, provides means whereby the inner leaf of the hinge H is swivelly mounted to the lid L so that the board B can be rotated as well as swung toward or away from the lid L.

, The plate 11 is also provided with a plurality of pairs of outstanding lugs 19 provided with alined apertures through which a bar 20 is disposed, this bar 20 having a handle 21 at one end thereof so that the bar 20 may be readily withdrawn from the lugs 19. The ironing board B is provided at one end thereof with a depending plate 22 which has an aperture adjacent one end thereof through which the bar 20 may be extended so that the ironing board B may be readily locked against swinging movement when the lid L is opened. This bar 20 also provides means whereby the hinge H cannot be rotated on its swivel mounting and thereby, the board B is securely'held in horizontal operative position at substantially right angles to the lid L when the lid L is opened. In order to securely hold or maintain the lid L in upstanding or vertical position, I have provided a pair of braces 23, each of which has the lower or forward end thereof swingably' attached to the front edge or wall of the chest C, and the rear or upper end of each brace 23 is provided with an adjustable mounting or block 24 having an aperture therethrough and through which the bar 20 is disposed, the upper end of the bar 24 being flattened and disposed between apair of the lugs 19. The'upper end of the brace 23 is threaded into the bar 24 and a nut 25 holds the brace 23 against loosening in the swingable mounting 24. I a

A vertically swingable supporting post 26 has one end thereof swingably carried by a bracket 27 secured to the front wall of the chestC and the lower surface of the board B is provided with a socket 28 within which the upper end of the supporting post 26 may be 'removably disposed so that the outer or-free end of the board B will be suitably supported and atthe same time, the board ironing board from the lid L, I have provided a bracket, generally designated as 29, which is secured to the board 13 above the ironing board B and is provided with outstanding loops 30. A connecting bar 34 is secured or formed with the bars 32 and extends at right angles to the bars 32 and provides means whereby the sleeve board 31 will be held against movement relative to the lid L. Preferably, the hooks or reverted end portions 33 are disposed on the upper surface or side of the bars 32, and the connecting bar 34 is dis posed on the opposite side of the bars 32 from the hooks 33.

A swingable supporting member 35 is carried by the lower surface of the board 31 and is swingably mounted on plates 36 secured This supouter or free end of the board 31 will be held in horizontal position. An iron support is mounted on thelid L to one side of the upper or removable ironing board member 31, and this iron support comprises a bracket 37 which is similar to the bracket 29 and is provided with outstanding loops 38 for engagement with hook members 39 carried by bars 40. The bars 40 are connected together by means of a connecting member 41 which is disposed on the lower side of the bars 40 or oppositely from the hooks 39. A flanged plate 42 is mounted on' the outstanding bars 40 and the upturned rim 43 of this plate 40 provides means whereby the iron, when mounted thereupon, will be prevented from readily slipping off. 1

The iron supporting, means is so constructed that when the lid L is closed, the bars 40 may be reverted and the hooks 39 first withdrawn and then reinserted in the loops 38 with the bars 40 lying substantially flat against the lid L and the connecting bar 41 standing out from the surface of the lid L. In this manner, the iron support can be readily collapsed and will be held in collapsed position by being disposed between the board B and the lid when this board B is in collapsed position. The board 13'is provided at one edge thereof'with a bar 44 which has one end thereof free and the other or lower endsecured to the inner edge of the board13, as at 45.

The hooks 33 of the sleeve board 31 may be engaged with this upstanding bar 44 and when the board B is clamped by the clamp members 10, the sleeve board 31 will bereleasably held against movement. The board 13 is also provided with an outstanding eye 46 within which the releasing bar 20 may be supported when it is not in operative position in the apertured lugs 19. 1

In the use of the devices hereinbefore set forth, the ironing board B may be released I from the lid L after it has been swung into upstanding or vertical position by turning the clamps 10 so that they will be disengaged anew with the board B. The board B may then be swung toward the opposite end of the chest C and in outstanding relation to the lid L and turned so that the surface of the board B will be horizontal. The locking bar 20 may then be disposed through the lugs 19 and the braces 23 engaged between pairs of these lugs. he plate 11 is provided with stop members 47 for engagement with the adjustable end portions 24 of the braces 23 so as to limit the swinging movement of these braces relative to the plate 11. The post 26 may be swung upwardly so that it will engage in the socket 28 of the board B and the board B will then be securely held in horizontal position with one edge thereof disposed outwardly of the adjacent end of the chest C. In other words, the width of the board B is such that it will extend beyond the adjacent edge of the lid L and the end of the chest C when it'is in operative position. If it is only desired to use the main ironing board B, the sleeve board 31 can be left in its detached position flat against the lid L and the iron bracket can be reversed so that it will be in outstanding position with the connecting bar 41 holding the arms 40 at substantially right angles to the adjacent face of the lid L.

It will be noted from the foregoing that an ironing board support has been provided in the form of a cabinet or chest which can be used for other purposes inasmuch as the entire board with its mountings are attached in flat position against the lower surface of the lid and will occupy only a relatively small amount of space.

It is, of course, understood that various changes and modifications may be made in the details of construction and design of the above specifically described embodiment'of this invention without departing from the spirit thereof, such changes and modifications being restricted only by the scope of the following claims.

What is claimed is 1. In combination with a cabinet having a vertically swingable lid, an ironing board, means for swivelly mounting the board on the lid, and means engaging the cabinet and the board to hold the board in operative position.

2. In combination, a cabinet, a vertically swingable lid, a main ironing board, means 5 for hingedly and swivelly mounting the board on the lid, a sleeve board, means for detachably securing the sleeve board to the lid, and means carried by the sleeve board and engaging the main board to support the sleeve board in operative position.

3. In combination, a cabinet, a vertically swingable lid carried by the cabinet, an ironing board, means for swivelly mounting the board on the lid whereby to permit rotary and swinging movement of the board relative to the lid, a supportin post carried by the-cabinet and engaging t e board to hold the board inhorizontal operative position,

and bracing means for holding the lid in vertical position.

5. In combination with a cabinet having a vertically swingable lid, an ironing board, a hinge having one leaf thereof secured to the board, means carried by the board and engaging the other leaf of the hinge .to swivelly mount said hinge on the lid, and re-' leasable locking means for holding the board against rotation relative to the lid.

6. In combination with a cabinet having a vertically swingable lid, an ironing board, a pair of parallel bars secured to the board, hooks formed with the inner end of the bars, a connecting member connecting the bars together at the inner end thereof, said connecting member being disposed oppositely from said hooks, and means carried by the lid for engagement with said hooks to support said board in horizontal operative position from said lid. 7

7. In combination with a cabinet having a vertical swingable lid, a pair of parallel article supporting bars, a hook formed with the inner end of each bar, a connecting member connecting the bars together and disposed oppositely from said hooks and outstanding loops carried by the lid for en-- gagement with said hooks to support the bars in horizontal operative position from said lid.

8. In combination, a cabinet, a swingable lid carried by the cabinet, an ironing board,

hinge on the lid, an apertured member carried by one edge of the board, a plurality of apertured lugs carried by the plate, and a locking bar disposed in the apertures of said lugs and engaging said apertured memher to hold the board against rotary move-' ment relative to the lid. 9. In combination, a cabinet, a lid swing ably carried by the cabinet, an ironing board, a hinge having one leaf thereof secured to the board, a plate secured tothe lid, means carried by the plate and engaging the other leaf of thehinge to swivelly mount the board on the plate, a plurality of alined apertured lugs carried by the plate below said hinge, a locking bar removably mounted in said lugs, a depending apertured membercarried by the board and engageable with said bar to hold the board against rotary movement relative to the lid, and bracing members having one end thereof secured to the cabinet, the other end of the bracing membershaving an aperture therethrough for engagement With said bar whereby to securely hold the lid in upright position.
