1445742 Toe board for scaffold platforms UP-RIGHT INC 2 Oct 1973 [7 Dec 1972] 45962/73 Heading E1S A toe board unit for attaching to a rectangular scaffold platform so as to surround and extend upwardly from the perimeter thereof, comprises a pair of elongate side frame members 26, 27 having opposed vertical surfaces 38, and a pair of elongate end frame members (28), 29 having opposed vertical surfaces 42, the end members each being pivotally jointed at the mid-point thereof and being hinged at their ends to respective ends of the side members, so as to form a collapsible unit which is unfolded in use into a rectangular frame; the toe board unit and a platform 16 are so combined in use that lower portions of the end member vertical surfaces 42 abut the end edges of the platform, and means are also provided to prevent lateral movement of the unit. The end members (28), 29 may have depending portions for engaging between supporting scaffold tubes 15 underlying the platform, and pivotable hooks for hooking under such tubes, the side members engaging the top surface of the platform. Alternatively, the side members 52 (Fig. 11) may have inwardly projecting flanges 65 at their lower edges to engage under the platform 16, and one such side member may be mounted to the end members 53 for outward pivotal movement by means of a latchable pivoted hinge leaf 72, to enable fitting of the toe board unit. Fasteners for securing the platform may be provided intermediate the ends of the side members, and comprise a hinge leaf having a pin to engage a hole in the platform and lockable by a spring-loaded hinge leaf. The toe board unit may constitute the support for the platform, both the side and end members having lower flanges on which the platform rests, and the unit having hooks on its ends to hook over scaffold tubes, and being strengthened by transverse cables.
