the provision of a curtain stretcher which possesses advantages in points of simplicity and efficiency, and, at the same time proves itself comparatively inexpensivein cost of manufacture.

\Vith the above and other objects inview, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described and finally pointed out in the claims hereto appended. I

All of the frame members, or rails are of the usual length and are of like construction,- in that each frame member is made up of two metallic channel sections each designated 1 and mounted at their ends on wooden, preferably, although not necessarily, cylindrical blocks, or plugs 2 to which they are secured by means of suitable fastening devices, such for instance as nails 3, or equivalent fastening devices, such as screws.

The longitudinal side frame members A are each provided midway their ends with an extra, preferably, although not necessarily, wooden block designated 4, having an opening 5 and to which the channeled sections of each side frame member A are secured by means of suitable fastening devices, such for instance as nails 6.

The channel sections 1 of each frame member preferably fall short of being semi-circular in end elevation so that when two channel sections 1 are positioned upon and se- 7 cured to the end blocks, or plugs, their longitudinal edges will be separated, thereby providing or forming longitudinal slots on opposite sides of each frame member, such slots being designated 7 for the longitudinal 7 frame members A, 8 for the transverse end frame members B, and 9 for the intermediate The end frame members B are secured to the side frame members A on the opposite side :thereof to the-intermediate transverse frame member C. V I 1 It will be here observed that the bolts 10 pass through the slots 8 in the end frame members B and the slots 7 of the longitudinal side members A so that when loosening the wing nuts on the bolts that the frame may be adjusted as to size either laterally, longitudinally, or both laterally and longitudinally.

It will also be observed that as the bolts 12 pass through the apertured wooden blocks or plug 4 in the longitudinal side frame members A and then through the slots 9 of the intermediate transverse frame member C. Frame member C cannot be moved longitudinally of the longitudinal side frame members A. Frame members A can be moved toward or away from each other only when the wing nuts 13 on the bolts 12 have been loosened. The intermediate frame member C is employed for the purpose of strengthening the central portion of the frame and for the purpose of providing an intermediate leg, or support which is out of alignment with the transverse end frame members B to support the frame in a standing position, thus obviating the necessity of having to lean the frame against a support when applying or removing material from the frame.

The material to be stretched on'the frame is supported by means of pointed hooks designated 14 carried in suitable spaced relation along the inner face of each of the longitudinal side frame members A and the end transve'rseframe members B'. In view of the fact that hooks 14c are employed inpreference to prongs or pins, as commonly used for this purpose, there is less chance of one being pric'ked by the hooks 14 in handling of the frame members,as is clearly manifest.

From the foregoing description, it is evident that we provide a frame which is light in weight, strong and durable, that the'several parts can be readily adjusted'relative to each other to provide a frame of the size desired to receive the material-to be stretched thereon, in that the end frame members'can be readily adjusted toward or away from each other and the intermediate transverse frame member, and that the longitudinal side frame members can be moved toward or away from each other. Also,thatby'loosening the wing nuts to all the bolts, the longitudinal side frame members can be moved to lie substantially parallel with one another,

thus forming a small package of the frame in girth, but relatively long in length, so'that the same can be conveniently handled for storage, or when moved about from place to place. I

The many advantages of the herein described invention will readily suggest themselves to those skilled in the art to which it appertains'. r

From the foregoing description, it is evident that a simple device for this purpose has been disclosed, but it is to be understood that We do not desire to restrict, or limit ourselves to the very details of the construction shown and described, which is merely illustrative, it being obvious that changes, not involving the exercise of invention, may be made without conflicting or departing from the spirit of the invention within the scope of the appended claims.

What we claim is:

1. In a curtain stretcher, the combination of a pair of longitudinally slotted side members tubular in form through their length and uniform in diameter, a pair of longitudinally slotted transverse end members tubular in form throughout their length and uniform in diameter, means for adjustably securing said end members to one side of the side members, a longitudinally slotted intermediate transverse member tubular in form and uniform in diameter, means for securing said intermediate member tothe opposite side of the side frame members so that the side members be moved toward and away from each other and to serveas a leg with the end members to support the frame in a vertical position and-hookscarried by the inner side faces of the endmember's and the side members to which material can be fastened for stretchinember secured to the oppesite side ofthe sidefr'ame member nndwaytnelen th of the side frame members,- means-carried within all the tubular frame members at their ends to-prevideseiid ends'for all the frame members, meanscarried within the tubular side frame members midway their ends to strengthen said members, the side frame members being capable of adjustment toward or away from each other, the end' frame members being capable of adjustment toward and away from eaeh other and the said-transverse frame lne'inb'er being fixed relative to th end frame members.

'3. A frame member for curtain stretcher-s comprising a pair of channel members,-end blocks for hdlding the longitudinal edges of the channel members in spaced relation to form opposed slots and means for securing thechannel members on the end blocks.

4. A frame member for curtain stretchers comprising a pair of channel members, end blocks for holding the longitudinal edges of the channel members in spaced relation to form opposed slots, means for securing the channel members on the end blocks, an intermediate block having a transverse opening therein disposedmidway the ends of the channel member and means for securing the channel members to said intermediate block. 5. A frame member for curtain stretchers comprising a pair of channel members approximately semi-circular in end elevation, cylindrical blocks to which said channel members are secured With the longitudinal edges of the channel members separated to form slotted openings and means for securing the channel members tothe cylindrical blocks.
