Description

-No.l91,033.
wnuessz: I l WM NITED STATES PATENT OFFGE.
CHARLES E. DARLING, OF LEWISTON, MAINE, ASSIGNOR OE TWO-THIRDS HIS RIGHT TO HENRY FREE AND JOHN E. LYDSTON, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN VENTILATORS' Ispecification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 19 I ,033, dated May 22, 1877; application filed April 30, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES E. DARLING, of Lewiston, Androscoggin county,Maine, have invented a new and Improved Ventilator, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 represents a front view, and Fig. 2 a vertical transverse section, of my improved ventilator on line at 00, Fig. 1.
The invention has reference to an improved ventilator for windows, doors, 850., that works in noiseless manner, and is perfectly watertight; and the invention consists of radially-recessed face-disks, clamped to the glass frame, and having an intermediate pivoted disk with corresponding recesses thatare set by a cranklever and cords into open or closed position.
In the drawing, A represents a glass pane of a door or window, and B B two face-disks of suitable sheet metal, that are attached by clamp-screws a to the frame and tightly sealed at their circumferences on the glass by means of putty, a circular opening of the required size having first been cut in the pane.
The face-disks are provided with radial sector-shaped recesses b, which alternate with uncut portions of the same size.
Between the face-disks Bis guided an intermediate disk, O, that is recessed in corresponding manner as the face-disks and keyed to a center pivot, d, which is retained by a screw-nut.
The center pivot and center disk are turned by crank-arms e of the pivot and by pendent cords D, attached to the arms 0, so that the ventilator may bereadily opened and closed at Whatever height the same is arranged, by pulling either one of the cords.
The inner disk 0 is notched at the circumference and brought into contact with a stoppin of the face-disks, so as to be only turned to the extent of opening or closing the recesses or apertures of the face-disks.
The ventilator forms a watertight and noiseless attachment to the panes, and may be opened and closed as desired.
Having thus described my invention, I
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. 'lhecombination of radially-recessed facedisks. clamped to the glass pane with a correspondingly-reoessedinnerdiskthatiscentrnlly pivoted and adjusted between the same, to open or close the ventilator, substantially as described.
2. The combination of the recessed facedisks B, clamped to the pane, and inner disk 0, having central pivot and crank-arms, and operating-cords D, substantially as specified.
CHARLES E. DARLING.
