Description

May 16, 1933. L, E. BAER 1,909,085
SHIRT HOLDER Filed July 29, 1932 EEE..- i
Patented May 16, 1933 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE LAWRENCE E.KBAER, OF ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO BAERV & WILBE COMPANY, F '.ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS SHIRT HOLDER.
.Application led J'uly 29,
sers or drawers for holding the front of thek shirt against upward movement. i
The inventionfurther aims to provide a simplified form of clasp which can be easlly and quickly positioned on and removed from the Shirt.
The invention further aims to `provide a novel form of one-piece button engaging loop and spring so as to afford a resilient connection of simple and economical` form between the shirt and trousers or the like.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device showing same in operative position with the drawers and shirt in dotted lines;
. Figure 2 is a top plan view of Figure 1, and
Figure 3 is an end elevation. f In proceeding in accordance with the present invention a clasp is employed having a base 1 formed with depending ears 2 that are perforated at 3. The base further has lateral ears 4 between which a jaw 5 is pivoted at 6, the jaw and base having toothed or roughened surfaces 7 so as to more effectively grip the shirt S. A substantially L-shaped latch 8 is formed with eyes 9 at its sides which latter receive pintles 10 that are formed integral with the sides of the rear end of the jaw 5 to the eyes being located at the angle of the latch. The latch straddles the rear end of the jaw 5 and preferably is strengthened by a rib 11 which is struck out therefrom and which has its inner end 12 formed to wipingly engage the rearface of the base 1 while its outer end 13 is turned outwardly to afford a finger grip.
A length of spring wire is employed and is doubled upon itself to form a loop 14 to en-L gage the button B of the drawers or trousers D. The main body of the wire is then bent to forni a series of spring coils 15 which ex- 1932. Serial No. 625,860.
tend transversely of the axis of the device. The free end 16 of the wire is bent to lie within the coils while the opposite or upper end of the wire is threaded through the perforations 3 of the ears 2 whereby to connect the coil to the base 1. It will thus be seen that the loop and coil spring are formed of a single piece of ymaterial and the connecn tion between the spring and the clasp is effected without the use of solder or other extraneous fastening means.
Referring to Figure 2 it will be seen that with the parts in a dotted line position, the base and aw are placed over the free edge of the shirt bosom and the finger grip 13 is then pressed toward the base, causing the end 12 to wipingly engage the base and when the parts are in the fullline position of Figure 2, the action of the latch effects outward movement of the rear end of the j aw 5 thereby moving the free or toothed end thereof toward the base 1. When the parts are in thc full line position of Figure 2 upon movement of the end 13 of the latch 8 away from the base 1 the jaw will be released and the end 12 of the latch will then engage the underface of the jaw 5 causing same to be moved away from the base thereby to release the shirt, in a single movement.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. In a shirt holder, a member formed of spring wi re doubled upon itself adjacent one end to form a loop to engage the button of a nethergarment and having its remainder spring Wire doubled upon itself adjacent one end to form a loop to engage the button of a nethergarment and having its remainder formed with e plurality of Coils which extend transversely of the axis of the member, a clasp composed. of a, base connected to the Coils, a jew pvoted to the hase, and means to latch the jaw to the base and to move the jaw away from Jhe base by and upon unlatching of the latehngl means.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this speeieation.
LAWRENCE E. BAER.
