Description

N. H. HORNE May 9, 1933.
FACE LIFT Filed Jan. 12, 1931 Patented May 9, i933 NEWTON H. HORNE, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI neon LIFT Application filed January 12, 1931. Serial No. 508,313.
This invention relates to a face lifting device and one object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be very easily applied and wh n in use will serve to remove wrinkles and surplus flesh from a persons face and also serve to draw the skin towards the top of the head, thereby loosening the scalp and facilitating how of blood which will stop hair from falling out, due to lack of proper nourishment.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which when applied will fit about the head and neck similar to the manner in which a bandage is sometimes applied and will have su'ffieient elasticity to exert pulling action upon the skin and thereby draw surplus flesh from the face which causes wrinkles and as previously stated, loosen the skin at the top of the head.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character consisting of endless bands of rubber, thereby providing a device for the purpose set forth which is very simple in its construction and may be easily applied, either by person to be treated or by an operator of a beauty parlor.
Another object of the invention is to provide the head and neck encircling band with means for securing portions thereof in proper crossed relation to each other at the back of the head, thereby insuring proper adjustment when it is applied and also causing it to exert the proper compressing and pulling action when in use.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying cl swing, wherein:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing the improved apparatus in use.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the head and neck encircling band with portions thereof in proper position to fit about the neck and top of the head.
Fig. is an enlarged fragmentary sectional View taken along the line 3-3 of Fig. 2
Fig. l is a perspective view of the band which fits about the head transversely thereof at the sides of the face. This improved face lifting and scalp loosening apparatus consists briefly of a band 1 to fit about the head transversely thereof with portions extending beneath the chin and over the top of the head and other portions bearing against sides of theface in front of the ears and another band 2 to be engaged about the neck and about the head, above the ears and across the forehead. These bands are each formed from a strip of pure rubber of suitable width and thickness and the ends of the strips are secured in abutting engagement with each other by stitching as shown as 3 and at or in any other desired manner. Stitching is preferred as the bands must be of a-determined size in order to properly fit about a persons head. It should be noted that while the two bands are of the same thickness, the band 2 is a great deal wider than the band 1 and is preferably of-such width that when it i applied, its lower neck encircling portion will cover the entire neck as clearly shown in Fig. 1.
When this improved apparatus is in use, the band 1 is first set in place and fits about the head transversely thereof with its lower portion extending beneath the jaw, about one inch back of the point of the chin and its upper portion extending over the top of the head, near the back thereof. Side portions of this band bear against sides of the face in front of the ears. This band is stretched somewhat when it is applied and fitted into its proper position and serves very effectively to hold the chin up and also cause loose flesh at sides of the mouth and jaws to be drawn upwardly. Therefore, loose flesh which causes sagging jaws and wrinkles around the mouth where the corners droop with age will be eliminated. It should also be noted that since the apparatus is to be applied at night, during which time the person wearing the bands will be asleep and the muscles relaxed, muscular resistence to its action will not be present and in addition the band 1 will keep the mouth closed, thereby forcing a person to breathe through the nose.
After the band 1 has been applied and properly adjusted, the band 2 is engaged about a persons neck and the seam 4 is disposed at the back of theneck. At the front of the neck, the band is crossed, thereby forming a neck encircling loop or collar 5 and portions 6 which extend rearwardly at an upward incline and are disposed in crossed relation to each other at the back of the head. A button or equivalent fastener 7 is engaged through an opening 8 formed in the portion of the band which bears against the back of the head and this button is engaged through an opening 9 formed in the overlapping portion of the band. One or both of the openings may be reinforced by a rubber disc as shown at 10, thereby preventing tearing, due to strain exerted when the button is engaged through the opening 9. By this arrangement proper crossing of the band at the back of the head will be insured and as the'band must be stretched in order to engage the button through the opening 9, the side portion 6 and the neck encircling loop will be placed under proper tension. This also insures proper tensioning of the upper portion of the band which forms a loop 11 to be brought forwardly and engaged about the head above the ears with its forward end extending across the forehead. This band 2 serves very effectively to remove wrinkles and loosens the scalp as the neck encircling loop will compress the neck and a pulling action will be exerted at the sides of the head back of the ears.
The head encircling loop 11 extends across the face encircling loop 1 to hold it in its proper position and this loop exerts pulling action which lifts the skin at the sides of the face and upon the forehead, thereby removing pin wrinkles under the eyes and also removing wrinkles from the forehead and lifting eyebrows which have drooped due to age. The contraction of the head encircling loop also forces the skin towards the top of a persons head, thereby loosening the scalp and permitting blood to flow freely and supply,- ing nourishment which is necessary for growth of hair. This will prevent hair from falling and will eliminate baldness. After the apparatus has been worn a few nights, no discomfort will be noticed, and the skin and muscles of the face and head will, after a short time, remain in their adjusted positions during the day.
What is claimed is:
1. An apparatus for eliminating wrinkles in a persons face and loosening the scalp, comprising an elastic band adapted to fit about a persons head with portions thereof extending across the top of the head and under the chin and other portions bearing against the cheeks, and a single integral endless loop of elastic material having its side stretches crossed and secured by a fastening device to form a forehead encircling band adapted to extend over and bear against the first mentioned band and entirely disconnected therefrom, the side stretches of'the loop beneath the fastening device being adapted to extend downwardly and forwardly at the rear of the head to a point beneath the chin and encircle the neck of the wearer, said end less loop being retained in operative position on the wearer solely by the inherent elastic properties thereof.
2. An apparatus for eliminating wrinkles in a persons face and loosening the scalp, comprising an elastic band adapted to fit about a persons head with portions extending across the top of the head and under the chin and other portions bearing against the cheeks, and a single inte ral endless loop of elastic material of uniform width but of greater width than the band having its side stretches crossed and secured by a single fastening device to form a forehead encircling band adapted to extend over and bear against the first mentioned band but entirely disconnected therefrom, the side stretches of the loop beneath the fastening device being adapted to extend downwardly and forwardly at the rear of the head to a point below the chin where the stretches are overlapped and coiled to form a band to encircle the neck of the wearer, said endless loop being retained in operative position on the wearer solely by the inherent elastic properties thereof.
3. An apparatus for eliminating Wrinkles in a persons face and loosening the scalp, comprising a single integral endless elastic loop having its side stretches crossed and fastened together to form bands of different lengths, the short band being adapted to fit around the forehead and the stretches of the long band being adapted to extend downwardly and forwardly at the rear of the head to a point beneath the chin and thence around the neck of the wearer, said endless loop being retained in operative position on the wearer solely by the inherent elastic properties of l the loop, and a second endless elastic loop adapted to fit about the head and beneath the chin and retained in position thereon by engagement with the forehead band of the first mentioned loop.
at. An apparatus for eliminating wrinkles in a persons face and loosening the scalp, comprising a single one piece endless elastic loop having its side stretches crossed and fastened together to form upper and lower bands of different lengths, one of which is adapted to encircle the forehead and the other the neck of the wearer, and a second endless elastic loop separate from and independent of the first-mentioned loop adapted to fit over the head and beneath the chin and be secured in position on the head by engagement with one of said bands.
