- the object of this invention is to avoid the difliculty ordinarily experienced in placing the elastic loop of a neck tie or bow upon the button or stud upon which the neck tie or bow is commonly suspended when in use; and to this end the invention comprises a forked, curved, and laterally-yielding metallic guide, arranged in peculiar relation with the ordinary elastic loop of a neck tie or how, whereby the desired object is attained.

- D is a bifurcate guide, formed of a piece of metal bent as represented in Fig. 3, having its closed end 0/ attached in place between the base A and the front or ornamental portion E of the bow, with its two prongs extending past through the loop B, and thence curved outward, as shown at 0.
- These outwardly-curved ends 0, being placed astride of the button or stud on which the bow is to be suspended, serve as guides, which direct the loop B on such button or stud (indicated in Fig. 2 by the reference-let ter G) in such relation with each other that the loop B is brought upon the neck F of the stud G in the position requisite for the retention of the bow in place.

IMPROVEMENT IN NECK-TIE RETAINERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 190,862, dated May 15, 1877 application filed March 24, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEVI HUSSEY, of the I city, county, and State of New York, have inventedan Improvement in Fastenings for Bows, Neck-Ties, &c., of which the following is a specification:
The object of this invention is to avoid the difliculty ordinarily experienced in placing the elastic loop of a neck tie or bow upon the button or stud upon which the neck tie or bow is commonly suspended when in use; and to this end the invention comprises a forked, curved, and laterally-yielding metallic guide, arranged in peculiar relation with the ordinary elastic loop of a neck tie or how, whereby the desired object is attained.
Figure 1 is a back view of an ordinary bow for the neck furnished with, or made according to, my invention. Fig. 2 is a like view, illustrating the manner in which the stud or button is guided to its place in the elastic by means of the metallic guide; and Fig. 3 is a detached view, showing the guide as constructed.
A is the usual base-piece of the bow, and B is the elastic loop ordinarily attached thereto, these parts being of common character and construction, and needing no specific description here. D is a bifurcate guide, formed of a piece of metal bent as represented in Fig. 3, having its closed end 0/ attached in place between the base A and the front or ornamental portion E of the bow, with its two prongs extending past through the loop B, and thence curved outward, as shown at 0. These outwardly-curved ends 0, being placed astride of the button or stud on which the bow is to be suspended, serve as guides, which direct the loop B on such button or stud (indicated in Fig. 2 by the reference-let ter G) in such relation with each other that the loop B is brought upon the neck F of the stud G in the position requisite for the retention of the bow in place.
What I claim as my invention is In a neck tie or how, the herein-described combination of the curvedlaterally elastic metallic guide D with the elastic loop B, all arranged substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
