Description
May 9, 1933. D. H. BITNEY COMBINED REENFORCE SUPPORT AND TIE ELEMENT Filed Jan. 31. 1931 Patented May 9, 1933 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE DEWEY H. BITNEY, OF ALBION, MICIIIGAN, ASSIG-NOR T0 UNION STEEL PRODUCTS COMPANY, OF ALBION, MICHIGAN COMBINED REENFORCE SUPPORT AND TIE ELEMENT Application filed January 31, 1931.
The main object of this invention is to provide a combined reenforce support or chair and tie element which is very stable, permits easy engagement of the reenforce bars therewith, effectively supports and retains them in relation to each other, and at the same time provide an element which is economical to produce.
Objects pertaining to details and economies of my invention will definitely appear from the description to follow. The invention defined in the claims.
A structure which embodies the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is an elevation of my combined sup port and tie element.
Fig. 2 is a view looking from the left of Fig. 1 with a pair of reenforce bars indicated by dotted lines mounted therein.
Fig. 3 is a plan view with fragments of reenforce bars in assembled relation to the element.
My improved combined reenforce and tie element comprises a pair of spaced U-shaped reenforce seat members 1 having downturned leg extensions 2 on the ends of their arms 3. The arms 4 of the members 1 are connected by a U-shaped part 5 constituting a third leg.
The arms 6 of this U-shaped part 5 have outward offsets 7 therein above the plane of the seats of the members 1 providing a reenforce bar seat. The arms 6 are converged upwardly above these offsets 7 so that they may be sprung apart to receive a reenforce bar as 8 and act to hold it in assembled relation and transversely of a bar 9 arranged in the seat members 1, the bar 8 constituting a locking member for the bar 9.
I thus provide a combined chair and tie unit which is very stable, permits easy engagement of the reenforce bars and effectively retains them in position.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A reenforce support and tie element formed of wire and comprising a U-shaped leg portion having outward offsets in its arms providing a reenforce seat, its arms being Serial No. 512,549.
converged upwardly from said offsets, the upper ends of said arms having U-shaped diverging extensions providing reenforce seats disposed in a plane below the reenforce seat of said leg member, the outer ends of said U-shaped extensions being bent downwardly providing a pair of legs, whereby reenforce elements may be disposed in said seats in crossed relation.
A reenforce support comprising a pair of spaced upwardly facing U-shaped reenforce seat members one arm of each of which terminates in a downwardly projecting leg, the other arms of said seat members being connected by a U-shaped part constituting a third leg, the arms of such U-shaped part having outward olfsets therein providing a reenforce seat and being converged upwardly above such seat to provide reenforce retaining means and being yieldable to permit the engagement of a reenforce element with said seat.
3. A reenforce support comprising a pair of spaced upwardly facing U-shaped reenforce seat members, one arm of each of which terminates in a downwardly projecting leg, the other arms of said seat members being connected by an upwardly facing U-shaped part disposed transversely of the said pair of reenforce seat members so that a reenforce may be disposed in the pair of U-shaped seat members and a second reenforce disposed in the third seat member to constitute a locking means for the first reenforce and said third transverse U-shaped seat member also constituting a third leg.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
DEWEY H. BITNEY.
