Description
1w. JACKSON. STOVE-PIPE SHELVES.
Patented May15, 1877.
",FEIERS, PHOTD-LITHDGRAPHER. WASHINGTON. D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN W. JACKSON, OF SHARPSVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN STOVE-PIPE SHELVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 190,760, dated May 15, 1877; application filed March 19, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN W. JAOKSON, of Sharpsville, in the county of Mercer andState of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Stove-Pipe, Shelf, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a transverse section on line as. a; in Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is an inverted plan view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention will first be described in connection with the drawing, and then pointed out in the claim.
In the drawing, A is a wire of the requisite strength, that is bent into the shape required to form the horizontal support, to which the shelf B is attached, and also the bracket, which rests. against the pipe for supporting the same.
The wire is first bent into a rectangular frame, a a, which is drawn in to form a semicircular notch, b, for embracing the stovepipe. From center of this notch the wires are bent downward and twisted together, forming the part c, at the lower end of which the wires are separated, and bent into an arc shape at d to embrace the stove-pipe. From the extremities of this arc-shaped portion the wires are carried forward and upward toward the front edge of the frame, where they are looped once around the frame, forming braces G G, and are returned to the rear side of the frame at the sides of the semicircular notch b, where they are again looped around the frame a, and are carried downward to the ends of the are d, and are looped around the braces O, and are finally carried upward and outward and attached to the frame a at c.
D is a brace-wire, that is secured to the sides of the frame a, and is bent around each of the braces 0.
E is a curved wire, having .at one end an eye,f, that clasps the frame a at one side of the notch b, and is bent into a hook at the other end, to engage with the frame a at the other side of the semicircular notch.
A sheet-metal shelf, B, is attached to the frameu. by bending its edges over the wire composing the said frame.
The advantages claimed for my improved shelf are its lightness, its oheapness, and its adaptability to the purpose for which it is intended.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with the wires D E, of a single wire, forming the frame a. b, twist c, are d, and braces O, as shown and described, for the purpose specified.
JOHN WHITE JACKSON.
