ISAAC PILES, OF YANKTON, DAKOTA TERRITORY.
IMPROVEMENT IN PICTURE-HANGERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 190,690, dated May 15, 1877 application filed January 25, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAO PILES, of the city and county of Yankton, Dakota Territory, have invented a new Frame Holder and Adjuster; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same.
My invention relates to the construction of hangers or supports for pictures; and it consists in the peculiar construction hereinafter more specifically pointed out in the claim.
In the several figures of the drawing like letters of reference indicate the same parts.

The support is formed of one piece of wire, having two vertical arms, A A, two horizontal arms, B B, projecting, where the device is attached to the wall, at right angles thereto, and which serve as the-supports proper for the picture, and the armsG 0, extending rightangularly from the vertical arms A A, but parallel, or nearly so, with the wall, and uniting in a loop, (1. The arms B B are, at their outer ends, supplied with buttons or knobs b b.
The hanger or support is hung upon the wall of a room by means of the engagement of a nail or hook with the loop d. The picture F has cords attached to its top and back, in the usual manner, said cords being also attached above the picture to the walls of the room. The bottom of said picture rests upon the horizontal arms B B, and as the tension of the cords is adjusted the bottom of the picture is free to slide or adjust itself correspondingly upon the said arms. If, however, the picture should be suddenly and violently struck, and thereby thrown forward, its movement will be limited to the knobs b b, thus avoiding the danger of its becoming unsupported by the arms B B, when the cords might not be strong enough to prevent the falling of the picture.
What I claim as my invention is A picture-hanger formed of a single piece of wire, having vertical arms A A, arms 0 0, loop d, and arms B B, provided with supplemental knobs b b, substantially as set forth.
