The sheet from which each leaf of the calen- This invention relates to calendars, and more particularly to the calendars which are especially adapted for distribution, by merchants, stores and banks, as advertising matter.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a calendar of novel construction, having a receptacle or pocket, adapted to receive and retain coins or bills.

It is a further object of the present invention to furnish a means for stimulating thrift by providing a depository which must be changed periodically.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a new and unique advertising device.

Other objects and advantages of my invention will be apparent from the following description, taken in conjunction with the accompanying sheet of drawing, in which:

Figure 1 is a front view of the calendar constructed according to my invention;

Fig. 3 is an enlarged section taken along the line 3--3 of Fig. 1.

In the drawing to which detailed reference will now be made, I have shown a calendar of the type frequenty distributed by merchants, banks, etc., as advertisements. Such a calendar, as usually constructed, consists of a back 10 of paste board or heavy paper. On the upper part of this back may be placed, either directly thereon or on a sheet attached thereto, any suitable picture or inscription.

Attached in the form of a pad to the lower part of the back 10 are leaves 11. The calendar for one month is printed on each leaf, and the leaves are arranged in series, with January on the top, so that the calendar for each new month is uncovered by removing the leaf bearing the calendar for the preceding month. The leaves may be secured to the back by means of staples 12, as shown, or by any other suitable means. This form of construction is old and well known in the art, and no claim is made thereto.

In its preferred form, the calendar, constructed according to my invention, has the leaves 11 made in the form of envelopes.

In the upper part of the front wall of the envelope, but below the seam formed by the rear of the envelope, there is a slot or opening 13 adapted to admit coins, etc., into the pocket of the envelope. In its preferred form, this slot kisa narrowcrescent-shaped opening, as this shape facilitates the deposit of coins in the envelope.` The wall of the 'envelope surrounding the slot may be reenforced by securing to the front of the envelope, by adhesive or otherwise, a piece of paper or fabric 15, which is large enough to extend beyond the slot 13 on all sides. This construction prevents the envelope from being torn when coins are deposited.

In use, the calendar is hung on the wall and coins are from time to time deposited in the envelope by dropping them through the slot 13. At the end of the month the envelope is removed by tearing it from the staples. The envelope containing the money may then be taken to the bank for deposit and the envelope need not be preserved as a new one is provided each month.

While I have illustrated and described the object of my invention in a detailed manner, it should be understood, however, that I do not intend to limit myself to the precise arrangement of parts and details of construction shown and described, but regard my invention as including such modifications as do not involve a departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Havingy thus described my invention, I claim:

1. A calendar comprising in combination a back, a plurality of leaves constructed as envelopes, each envelope being closed except for a slot in one of the Walls thereof, means for reenforcing the Wall surrounding said slot, and means for securing the envelopes to said back including tabs formed by extending one Wall of each envelope beyond the other Wall thereof. v
