This invention relates to day-beds in general.
Among the objects of the present invention it is aimed to provide an improved daybed having a frame, an extension bed section and a main bed section, in which the extension bed section is pivotally connected to the frame and operatively connected to the main bed section, so that as the extension bed section is swung into its outer posit-ion it will cause the main bed section to be raised and when the extension bed section is swung into its inner position. it will cause the main bed section to be lowered to form an enlarged bed compartmentbetween the two bed sections in single bed formation.
These and other features, capabilities and advantages of the invention will appear from the subjoined detail description of one embodiment thereof illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a perspective of a day-bed made according to the present invention in single bed or couch formation;

The day-bed consists essentially of a main frame F which has attached thereto the foot and head boards 1, 2, and the back board 3 of a couch.
The frame F, as illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3.,has end frame members, each having uprights 5, 6, an upper cross bar 7 and a lower cross bar 8. The uprights 5 and 6 of theend frame members 4 are connected to one another by the board pieces 9 and 10. p
Operative to move up and down within the main frame F, there is provided the main bed section A. Operative to move into an extended position or double bed formation and back into single bed formation,

The 'mainbed section A is provided with end. bars 11 which are connected to one another by the elongated side bars 12. Each of the end bars 11 is provided with a slot 13 at one end corresponding to the slot 14 in each of the lower'cross bars 8 of theyend frame member-s4. [The main frame Ais connected to the lower-cross bars 8 by two pairs oflevers, each pair consisting of two 16 which are pivotally connected to one anotheratv 17. The lever 15 is pivotally connected at 18v to one: end of the end bar 11 and provided with a-stud'l9 at. its lower end traveling in the slot 14:.
The lever-'16, onthe other ha'nd, is pivotally connected at 20 to one end of the lower cross bar-8 and provided with a stud 21 at its upper end traveling in the slot 13 of the g endbarllri The extension bed section Bis also provided withend-bars 22 which are connected to one another by the elongated sidebars 23. The extension bed section B is pivotally connected. to theupper endsof the uprights 5 of the end frame members 4 by pins 24,.in which case the frame portion 23 adjacent the pins 24 serves-as the equalizer so thatboth ends of the frame will at all-times rise atthe same time even when only one side of the ex tension bed section is engaged in the 'act of manipulating 'thesame.

In order to serve as :legsor supports for the extension bed section B when in extended position, each end of the frame Bis provided with a leg 25 which is'pivotallyconnect'ed at 26tothe end bar 22 of the frame B and has an upwardly extending portion 27 to the upper end of whichthere is pivotally connected the'link 28 which in turn is pivotally 'c onnected*toithe control link 29. The control link 29-is pivotallyconne'cted at30 to the endbar 22 and pivotallyconnected at the stud v21 on the lever 16. as indicated,,.the-control link 29 is bent'at31itoclear the pivotal connection of the lever 15 with the end bar 11.
As illustrated in the present instance, the
frame portion A haspermanently, secured its upper-surface aspring mattress 32.
The bed section B, on the other hand, is provided both with an upholstered couch portion 33 to one face thereof and a spring mattress Set to the other face thereof, the spring mattress 34cbeing secured to the face of the bed section B which faces downwardly in single bed formation and upwardly in double bed formation, so that, as illustrated in Fig. 3, the spring mattress 34 will be upward in doublebed formation and the upholstered portion 33, as illustrated in Fig. 2, will be upward in single bed formation.
To facilitate the action of the levers'15 and 16 when manipulating the ,bed' into single bed and double bed formation, each of the'levers'15 are provided :with a spring 35 which connects such lever 15 between its pivotal connection 17 and its stud 19 with the lower cross bar 8, as illustrated in Fig. 4:.
, In the operation of this bed, as illustrated in Fig. 3 in double bed formation, the spring mattresses '34 and 32 will be located at the same level and when the bed section B is swung over into single bed formation, the position illustrated in Fig. 2, the cross bars 15 and 16 connected to the control links 29, will actuate the frame A into the lowered position illustrated in Fig. 2, Where a decided bed compartment will be formed betweenthe spring mattress 34 and the upper face of the spring mattress 32. During this operation of the bed section'B into'single bed formation, the connection of the legs 25 "with the control links 29iby the links 28 will cause frame and slot and pin connected to said main bed section, an extensible bed section pivotally connected to said main frame, a control link pivotally connected to each end of said extensible bed section and pivotally connected at its other end to said other lever of said crossed levers, a leg pivotally connected to each end of said extensible bed section, and a link pivotally connected to eachleg at oneend and at its other end pivotally connected to one of said control links. It is obvious that various changes and modifications may be made to the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of the invention as set forth in the appended claims. 1 I claim':
1. The combination with a main frame, of an extensible bed section pivotally connected to said main frame, a main bedsection, crossed levers pivotally connected to one another and operatively connecting said main bed section with said main frame, control links pivotally connecting-said crossed levers with said extensiblebed sectionwhereby said crossed links willbe operatedto raise said main bed section when said'extensible bed section is swung outwardly, legs pivotally connected to'said extensible bed section, and'links operative-1y connecting said legs with said control linksso that said legs will be swung into supporting position when said extensible bed section is swungoutward-ly.
